Stafford reaches 5k
This is how we know that favoritism lays with other teams and not our Lions.
Brees, Brady and Marino, to my knowledge are the only QBs to ever reach 5,000 passing yards. To be mentioned with these guys is pretty good company. They are either Hall of Famers or will be when they hang it up. Now I might be wrong but I believe they are the only 3 to ever reach 5k in passing yards. Can anyone confirm this for me. If I am correct then WTF !! How come EVERYONE is on Brees and Bradys dick about passing 5k. Not one article not one person in any light has mentioned that Stafford as well passed 5k !! I had hopes for him passing it but about 2 weeks ago I gave up hope as well as hoping Megatron would take the #1 spot for yards as a WR and I was shown too be wrong. Just like they came back in so many games this year, they shattered records in a big way. I think everyone on pod should hit up twitter and ask them what the hell, why no love for Stafford passing 5k !!
Please rec this so we can start getting people to yell at espn or whoever you like to give Stafford and CJ there props they deserve !
UPDATE:
I tweeted M. Silver and he said, I have yet to write my article. It would be not worthy of our guys but bottom line is our starters wasted a great opportunity against backups.

Brees hit 5000 a couple years ago
but stil, it’s an amazing feat that should be getting coverage!
The boys are back in town!
5th All Time
1 Drew Brees New Orleans Saints 5,476 2011
2 Tom Brady New England Patriots 5,235 2011
3 Dan Marino Miami Dolphins 5,084 1984
4 Drew Brees New Orleans Saints 5,069 2008
5 Matthew Stafford Detroit Lions 5,038 2011
I could not see the 1st four names and stats on your list.
Could you re-copy please.
Weird year ...
This is going to be remembered as a year that all sorts of records fell. Will the lockout cheapen some of the accomplishments? In a year that saw less off-season prep, I’m guessing the defenses were at a serious disadvantage.
Three QBs going over 5K in one year? Unbelievable.
Having said that, this is still a tremendous accomplishment for Stafford and the Lions. I’m disappointed that the announcers didn’t even say a single word. I usually like Billick, but that they missed this one shows how sloppy Fox can be.
It's not that hard to believe
Stafford just broke out, the kid would probably have done it last year if not for injury. Brees just did what he did again, with more years in the same system with most of the same guys and a phenomenal running game. Rodgers was also due the type of season he enjoyed, it’s just going to keep rolling.

He's also only the 7th to throw for 40 or more TDs
Marino
Warner
Manning
Brady
Rodgers
Brees
Stafford
The last three all did it this season.
I couldn't think of a better signature.
HOF company
Marino is already in. Warner is probably going. Manning and Brady already have their tickets punched, Brees has a good case for himself as well. Rodgers is still young, but he’s in if he keeps it up for at least four or five more years. To be in company with people like that is truly remarkable.
I couldn't think of a better signature.
In the fourth quarter, I was think Calvin had a shot to pass Moore's team record
Herman Moore’s team record is 1786 and Calvin was 6 short of breaking it. If he catches that wide open TD, he probably owns that record today.
I couldn't think of a better signature.
He'll get it next year
When Staff goes crazy on the other teams and throws 6000+ yards :)

I'd be happier to see them set the single season TD records
Stafford 51
Calvin 24
I couldn't think of a better signature.
I'm very proud of the kid. He showed what he's made of these last few games.
I was pulling hard for him to break that 5000 yard mark and deserves to be linked with the top names in the game.
Is your head as big as your Mama's ass?
Funny about three weeks ago someone posted about Staff reaching 5000.
I laughed it off at the time because he was 850 yards away. I did not think he had a hope in hell of throwing for that many yards against SD and GB.

Hey, he broke 5k in his first full 16 game season
we have one of the greats here in motown. I think he will lead us to a SB one day, hopefully sooner than we might think.
Just a few stats
Stafford reached 5k In his 3rd year at the age of 23
Dan Marion reached 5k in his 2nd season at the age of 23
Drew Brees reached 5k the first time in his 8th year at the age of 29
Tom Brady reached 5k in his 12th year at the age of 34
Total passing yards by age of 23:
Matt (After 2011 season) 7,840 in 29 games
Marino (After 1984 season) 7,294 in 27
Brees (After 2002 season) 3505 in 17 games
Brady was 1 for 3 for 6 yards in the one game he played by age 23.
Total passing yards for career:
Marino played 17 seasons and ended with 61,361 yards in 242 games.
Brady has played 12 seasons and has 39,979 yards in 161 games so far.
Brees has played 11 seasons and has 40,742 yards in 154 games so far.
Stafford has played 3 seasons and has 7,840 yards in 29 games so far.
If you go by yards per game Matt has averaged 270.3 per game with Brees next at 264.6 per game then 3rd among active is Brady with 248.3 and Marino finished with 253.6 yards per game. I’m not saying Matt will finish with more yards than any of the other 3 but at this age he is on pace to surpass Marino as long as he plays at the level he is currently. He is 53,521 yards short of tying Marino. If he can keep his pace of 270.3 per game he will tie Marino in 198 games or just over 12 years of 16 games per year.
Again, I am not saying Matt will pass Marino or even come near him of Favre at 71,838 I’m just saying of all the guys that have thrown for 5k Matt very well COULD surpass Marino’s total yardage.

Love all of this
But I’ll be much more concerned about Stafford NOT getting 5,000 yards next season. I want us to have a run game and Stafford to be even more efficient with his attempts, converting 3rd downs, and protecting the ball. His consistency will be a huge measure for me. Not total yards or TDs.
I’m hoping we invest in that line and pick up a 4th back in the late rounds or a vet (to replace MoMo). Those two moves should, IMO pay big dividends to how efficient our offense is and controlling more of the TOP. By doing that, I think we can make our defense better and in turn not have to post these incredible comeback Ws that inflate the #s…
The boys are back in town!
I get what your saying and I'm with you.
Marino never threw for 5000 after 84. I would be fine if Matt only threw for 3000 a year if we can win 11+ games each year. Of Dan’s 17 seasons he had the one with 5000 and 5 others with 4000+. His average was only 3609/year. I’d be fine with only 3600 a year from Matt.

"All I can say is, that boy ballin’," said wide receiver Calvin Johnson on Matt Stafford
I don't know about that
I think we could see a lot of screen passes to Best that work the same as “runs” but are considered “passes” by the stat sheet.

So who the hell is Dan Marion?
Dan Marion reached 5k in his 2nd season at the age of 23

Can't remember who told me this
Weeks ago someone had said something along the line of 2 more weeks and Stafford will get the Joey tag. LOL I am loving this so much. Matts been my guy before he was a Lion and there is nothing like having cold hard facts to prove the doubters wrong.

Stafford had an amazing year statistically
I followed him in college, and went to a few of his UGA games, and I’ve always liked his demeanor. He’s shaping up to be one of the best QBs in the league, and it should be a blast watching Rodgers & Stafford battling it out for years to come. I wish him the best of luck, except when he’s playing against the Packers. See you next week?

Rodgers Vs. Stafford is shaping up to be an epic battle for years to come. Cheers.
See you next week?

That's my boy.
I don’t think you can ever completely “know” that a quarterback is going to be one of the great ones, but I was about as close to completely believing that as one could be. He just exuded “IT factor” for me and everything I liked about past great quarterbacks coming out of college in the past, I saw in Stafford.
This is my formal apology and quote of redemption summarized in one paragraph…. I am sorry for constantly dogging everyone after every injury or every bad game that Stafford had. But I think now people can hopefully see why I did. I knew that this kid was special, but even I didn’t realize HOW special. It is great to see something that I really felt has fully come to fruition… and he’s only got greatness ahead of him. To be 23 years old and in only his third year and to have this type of season is more amazing than I have the words to write.
It took Drew Brees 8 NFL seasons to pass for 5,000 yards and 11 seasons to throw more than 40 TDs. It took Tom Brady 12 seasons to throw for 5,000 yards (and remarkably it took him 6 seasons to even hit 4,000 yds) and 8 seasons throw more than 40 TDs. Aaron Rodgers is now in his 7th year and he has NEVER thrown for 5,000 yds and this is his first year hitting more than 40 TD. Marino is the exception to the rule, but if that is the measuring stick to be judged by, then Stafford is firmly on his way to a Hall of Fame career.
How can we as Lions’ fans not be anything but giddy about the coming years in Detroit? We have an elite quarterback that has PROVEN that he can single-handedly win games for this team. Not just by 4th quarter comebacks, but by taking the entire offense on his shoulders and throwing for 5TD or 500 yds or whatever he needs to do. At age 23. That is amazing and exciting. If Mayhew, with whom I have a lot of confidence in, can find a running game and secondary for us, we WILL win a Super Bowl in the next 5 years. As is, we are going to be a perennial playoff team year-in year-out with Stafford.
I love the folks who have to question whether or not Stafford is elite. WTF? Look at the numbers and the production in comparison to THE GREATEST THAT HAVE EVER PLAYED in conjunction with his age and the team he inherited and you should have your answer right there. I don’t think anyone needs to question this kid ever again. And with that…. I resign as “the guy who always has to get Stafford’s back after every bad throw”. I think I served my position well and I am happy to be retired!

Recked you Drew.
I don’t mean to rain on your parade, but there will always be Lions fans that will dog him unless he wins a half dozen Super Bowls. Fortunately, that minority just shrunk dramatically to the “idiot fringe”.
By the way, Happy New Year to you and your family, Drew.

Happy New Year to you and yours as well, North.
I know there will always be those never satisfied. I will probably continue my failing efforts to convert the remaining few, but with a little less fervor knowing those that focus on the negative with a guy like Stafford are not likely worth the effort.
the thing that isn't being said about Stafford's great year is the fact that
he doesn’t have a consistant running game to keep D’s honest, doen’t have a couple pro-bowl players blocking for him, DOES have the best reciever but also has a rookie and a number 2 that is…ok, not great and his tight ends are good. Also he has only played in this system 3 (really like 1.5) years not many like Brady, Brees.
Now Marino did it when he was young but he was way ahead of his time. He also had a stable of good reciever and the defenses where not what they are today, they where more geared to stop the run.
On a side note, Gunny you need to break out the chaos defense, dont line the same lineman up at same position twice, have a linebacker jam the TE at the line every time! keep a safety deep at all times. If you can keep there lineman off balance and disrupt the TE’s route it will limit time Brees has…just sayin
The first part of Twitter is twitt...don't be a twitt and tweet!
Marinos 5000 in 84 led the Dolphins to the Super Bowl
what will Staffs 5000 do for us? I hope it leads to the same result! GOOOO LIONS
Congrats again Staff on 5k, and Megatron on being the NFLs best reciever (in yards and TDs (Gronkowski for the Pats is in another area, clearly BEST TE in the game)

Miami lost the Super Bowl. I’d be fine if we made it but happier if we actually won. 2008 Saints finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs so 5000 yard passer doesn’t guarantee playoff success.

My own dream is that both us and the Falcons win out so we play the NFC championship game here in Atlanta and I can get a second mortgage to afford tickets.

Brilliant!
We will probably be huge dogs in the game anyway. I can put enough cash on it to get the ticket and it will either be like I get the ticket at half price or (if they lose but cover) I get the money to pay my bail for beating the crap out of some fat packer fan.
You want some talk about Sanchez?
How about this gem. As I read it I couldn’t help thinking about how they pretty much dismiss Stafford in the discussion. I guess it is because there is no need to judge him anymore. He passed for 5k and got into the playoffs.
