Lions Notes: Marty Mornhinweg Drawing Interest For Head Coaching Vacancies
- The Lions are slated to take Stanford offensive tackle Jonathan Martin in SB Nation's latest 2012 NFL mock draft. Personally, I don't think they can go wrong with picking one of the Stanford offensive linemen.
- Former Lions wide receiver Derrick Williams has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- Despite his miserable stint as Lions head coach from 2001-02, Marty Mornhinweg appears to be on the verge of once again being hired as a head coach. He reportedly will interview for the Oakland Raiders' head coaching job, and he is actually the favorite to land the Indianapolis Colts' head coaching job.
- Speaking of the Colts, they are also apparently interested in former Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel and former Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress. That is not a very impressive list of candidates, to say the very least.
- The New Orleans Saints have hired former St. Louis Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo as their new defensive coordinator. Spagnuolo replaces Gregg Williams, who left to be the Rams' new defensive coordinator.
- Darren Rovell is reporting that Nike may not be planning on completely changing NFL uniforms in year one of its deal with the league.

I'd be shocked if
Martin fell to us, however If he did I would take him in a heartbeat. I think he is the 3rd best Olineman in this draft(Behind Kahlil and DeCastro) and the second best tackle(Behind Kalil).
He would be great value and give us atleast one more piece to the puzzle.

I would have never picked Marty as the guy to break the curse of Lions coaches never to head coach again.
Fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings.
I was thinking the same thing
Marty had some time to learn under Andy Reed, so his personnel picks should be much better with his next head coaching gig. (he said sarcastically)
In all truthfulness, I think he heads to the Raiders. They are on the verge of turning the corner. He should be able to slow it down.
"I’m not a talker on the field, but if you say something to me, I may say something back to you or I may ignore you. It’s funny because a lot of guys usually come up and say something to me like right before, something like ‘Have a good game,’ or whatever, and I just ignore it. I’m not here to meet friends. I’m here to cause you problems and meet your quarterback. I’ll shake his hand when I’m hitting him." Ndamakong Suh

Jonathan Martin
Is the #1 (realistic) player on my draft board. He’s smart, athletic, and understands the position. If we drafted Martin, we’d be set with a potential top 10 LT for the next decade. If Martin falls past Arizona, I hope MM trades up to draft him because he is without-a-doubt, the real deal.

2012:
Derrick Williams – 95 receptions, 1592 yards, 14 TDs
Book it.

I'm left to wonder
how many times he’ll have to be targeted to get 95 receptions. +/- 160
seriously!

He didn't say whether those numbers were for Williams or the corners covering him.
No slogans. Just win!!!
Marty might get a hc job of the winds blow in his favor
What's so funny 2011 Lions? Gordon Bombay doesn't think losing is funny.

All the hate for Marty here....
He had the unfortunate pleasure of coaching a team drafted by the epic bonna-douche wanna be GM (aka Flaming paper bag of shit).
No one could have won with that guy putting your team together. Who is to say he didn’t take the wind on purpose trying to get fired?
