East-West Shrine Game Open Thread

The 2012 East-West Shrine Game kicks off at 4 p.m. today on NFL Network. The head coaches for the game are Brad Childress and Bobby Ross (yes, the former Lions coach). Here are the local players in the game (apparently Michigan is now west of Michigan State):

East

No. 21 - WR B.J. Cunningham (Michigan State)

No. 79 - OT Joe Long (Wayne State)

West

No. 86 - TE Kevin Koger (Michigan)

No. 82 - WR Junior Hemingway (Michigan)

No. 27 - CB Chris Greenwood (Albion)

You can check out the full roster here.

I'm watching now,

What is the main difference between the East-West Shrine game vs the Senior Bowl? It seems like the Shrine game might have more small school players?

FYI Joe Long looks to be one to watch

He started 49 consecutive games at left Tackle, he won the 2011 Gene Upshaw Award as top Division II lineman (both offensive and defensive) and was on several D2 All-American lists.
He is also Jake Long’s little brother. He blocked for Joique Bell for 2 years so maybe Bell can give the Lions front office some insight into him.
It would be cool it grab him in a late round or as a UDFA

According to the NYTimes

NFL scouts have been visiting Wayne State to scout Long.

From some google searches Joe Long is looking like an UDFA, not a late round pick.

They just interviewed Joe Long

He really didn’t say anything. Now the announcers are talking about him. Something that Long has going for him is that he is also a Long-Snapper. Mike Mayock is saying that Long is a developmental left tackle prospect who needs to improve his upper body strength and core. Also says physically he’s almost identical to Columbia’s Jeff Adams who I believe is the top tackle prospect in the Shrine game.

Looks like he has mid to high 4.3 speed. Good size at 6-1. CBS has him rated as their 46th ranked CB and 418 overall, in other words, an UDFA
