Okay I was just wondering.
There seemed to be a prevalent “whichever team can beat the Pats” mantra. I mean, I want the SB to be a good game, but I also want the Pats to win it all. I’d like to see Tom Brady creep up on Montana, personally; he’s (imo) the best of all time but without the rings it’s all moot.

Well, I guess for me it still comes down to lack of action when it counted and could have made a difference for some later victims
I know Joe Pa just passed, and perhaps I should have more respect, but it seems to me the dirty secret got swept under the rug, he got to have many more winning seasons with that in the background, then regrets at the end? Insufficient, in my opinion.

well, if he had taken care of it properly in the first place
he would have been able to keep coaching. So I see what you are saying and agree.
Lives were changed and not for the better from his poor response but he was not alone in that failing.
One could also say, he helped literally ten thousand plus young men live better lives too.
He is culpable for his inaction but we can’t forget all the amazing things he did for all those kids he coached in his days. I am clearly conflicted.

I told my wife when he was fired that he probably wasn’t gonna live much longer, simply because the football is what keeps these older coaches active. When they go from the full schedule of being a college coach to nothing, it’s kind of a heavy transition on the body.

I've been musing.
About the fact that Levy seems to have dropped off since he went weakside. I know people like to think of him as an OLB, but I really think this year has kind of shown his true colors as a real inside man.
As such, I’ve been wondering why we don’t just switch to the 3-4. It’d solve our Avril/KVB issues (eventually), we’ve got two top-flight 5techs in Fairley/Suh and some meat in the middle, and two solid MLBs in Levy and Tulloch.
I know it’ll never happen, but it’s something that crosses my mind.

Well I like the theory being our 4-3
I like the idea of having a base package that can take all comers, still rush the passer, and field a package that’ll do fair-to-great against every offensive alignment.
It’s just, well, the personnel we currently have on defense screams “let’s be a 3-4” to me. We’d need to find another OLB because we’d probably cut Durant and Carpenter loose, but Avril could stand up on one end (probably weakside OLB) and we could draft someone for strongside (Burfict?) and we’d be all set.

Was talking with my brother about the ideal way to build an NFL defense. He thought the Giants had the best model: base everything on the front four, draft top guys there no matter how stacked you already are at the position, and build the rest of the defense through coaching of late rounders and free agents. A good front four means you can pressure QB’s w/o sacrificing coverage. I think the Lions are going after the same model. Agree? Disagree?

The wow plays, the thing that really makes him elite, is most certainly one trick pony. He just dominates you vertically, done deal, and makes it look easy.
