Thoughts on some college players
I decided to make a post to try and get peoples opinions on some college players we haven't heard much about (some who may not be coming out this year) but who could become impact players at the next level.
I'll start it off with two I had in mind:
Brandon Boykin (CB, Georgia): I've seen this guy show up on some mock drafts, and I think he is an interesting talent. Anyone who watched the Outback Bowl against MSU knows this guy was all over the field. Officially listed as a CB, he has the athleticism to provide impact at multiple positions on the field. He is a good returner and would likely be a good guy to have on coverage ST as well. He is listed at 5' 10" so he is not big, but is also expected to be a contributor in the secondary of whichever team drafts him. I wouldn't mind seeing the Lions make a move on him in the mid to late rounds if he is still on the board. He reminds me of a Stefan Logan type player, but with the ability to have a greater non-special teams role.
Brad Wing (P, LSU): I know he isn't coming out this year, but this guy seems to have a special skill set. I think that punter is an often overlooked position, but they can be difference makers (look a the impact the 49er's punter has). Wing may have the most unique skill set (a lot of which was developed from playing Australian Rules apparently) I've ever seen at this position and I would love to see the Lions procure him when he does make the jump to the NFL.

I forget which game, but I swear
there were four plays in a row where Boykin made a stop to force a punt. Then returned the punt. Then he took a handoff on a draw. Then I swear he dropped back to throw a pass! (It was incomplete, but still…)
Boykin is my favorite Bulldog by far. He just makes plays.
I don’t think his coverage skills are quite NFL ready, but with a year or two he could be solid (If unspectacular).
Schwartz wants dudes that can play multiple positions? I don’t think you can get more versatile than Brandon Boykin. He’d have an impact on ST for sure, and I like his long term potential. I was just talking to my wife about how I was sad Boykin wasn’t gonna be with the Dawgs next year.
(To be totally honest I would be giddy if we took Boykin. Like a tween at a Justin Beiber concert giddy.)

the Boykin I want is Jarrett
While I didn’t see him play this year he’s stuck in my head from last year. As I recall he’s kind of like a raw cross between Stovall and Hines Ward. He’s a late round flier type.
I didn’t get to watch much college ball this year, so no GA games. My understanding is Brandon leaves a lot to be desired tho. Then again, unless you get one of those uncommon guys you have to expect some time for a CB to be any good. Perhaps Brandon will get there

I'd be fine with taking Boykin
But no way in hell we draft a punter.
Draft a punter!
Thats a joke right ? I thought Donahue did a well enough job to stick around.

Well, you pretty much proved my point
I think that punter is an often overlooked position
I also didn’t say draft him, but I would not be opposed to spending a 5th-7th rounder on him if the front office believes they would be getting one of the the top 3 punters in the NFL. What are the chances we would get someone who would be worthwhile with those picks anyway? Especially now that we have talent on our roster (something we as Lions fans are not used to come draft time). He’s not even coming out this year.
