Lions Notes: A Look At The Latest Coaching Hires
- NFL.com put together best of videos for Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson that feature their top moments from 2011.
- The NFL said earlier this week that Nike isn't going to come in and dramatically change the look of logos and jerseys. Rather, any changes will be made with the approval of teams and the league. In all likelihood, the biggest changes will be with the equipment rather than the logos or colors or even the uniforms.
- We are going to get our first look at some Nike equipment at the Pro Bowl this week. They are apparently testing out some gloves and shoes, and Charles Tillman provided a look at his gloves, which form the Bears logo when he puts his hands together. They actually look pretty cool.
- The ratings were quite large for the NFC and AFC championship games.
- Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano was named the new head coach of the Indianapolis Colts earlier this week.
- The Oakland Raiders hired Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen earlier this week. Amazingly, he is the first defensive-minded head coach to be hired by the Raiders since John Madden.
- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers nearly hired Oregon head coach Chip Kelly for their head coaching job, but he decided to stay with the Ducks after reportedly initially accepting Tampa Bay's offer. With the job still open, the Bucs looked back at the college ranks and decided to hire Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano in what was really a puzzling move.

I held my breath the entire time through both of those videos.
Not since Barry has anything been so electrifying. When that ball goes deep, or when I see Calvin leaping, I get giddy. Do I dare say those two together better than Barry? I will not but the thought enters my mind….
"You simply cannot escape it. It's everywhere. There is a feeling the likes of which we haven't seen in decades. Emotions are high. Morale is climbing. People, once again, have something to talk about other than how disastrous our financial situation is and the collapsing of modern society." - Yahoo sports blogger.
Is it just me...
or does it seem that when a defensive coordinator becomes a coach, his new team has a better offense then defense..and vice versa?
Make it bleed GG...make it bleed.
Theory on that
Usually offenses are left to an OC to manage fully, instead of the HC tinkering with it. You have one philosophy with one guy calling all the shots, so if it works it works spectacularly or fails miserably.

Rex Ryan?
Yes, there are instances when it holds true. There are also instances when it doesn’t. There seems to be no correlation.

Not that I follow them that close but,
I am a bit puzzled that 1) Hue Jackson was let go by the Raiders and 2) he didn’t get a look from any other team that I know of. I thought he was doing a pretty good job for the Raiders in the short time he was coaching.
So the colts hired a new head coach…….is it gonna help? With Manning under center the offense was very productive. Without him even the defense blew ass. How can the Pats go 10-6 with Cassel (who is no better than Rex Grossman) and the Colts absolutely suck. How can one team revolve around one player so intently. Hell even bad teams with a backup Can be competitive. The Colts seemed to give in from day 1. I think Peyton will find a home w/ either the Titans, Dolphins, Skins or even the Broncos.

I have read that Manning could end up as a Niner as well
which I think is sorta funny when you consider that Harbaugh was the last starting QB before the “Peyton Era” began in Indy.
Charles Aaron "Bubba" Smith 1945 - 2011 R.I.P.
He could also end up in new Orleans….. Why has no not resigned brees….led the league in passing…yet no contract! If peyton is healthy watch out…he’s from new Orleans…. His dad has pull down there…. I’m just saying.
