Pride Of Detroit Awards: The Nominations

Over the past couple of weeks, we have found out how Detroit Lions players voted on their team awards. Now I'm interested in seeing what fans' thoughts are on the Lions' 2011 season, and to find out, I am launching a new series of posts: the Pride of Detroit Awards.

While some of the categories may overlap with what the players voted on, some are also different. So far, I have compiled the following list of awards for fans to vote on:

--MVP
--Offensive Player of the Year
--Defensive Player of the Year
--Breakout Player of the Year
--Offensive Play of the Year
--Defensive Play of the Year
--Game of the Year

There are some obvious nominees for each of these categories, but before we move on to the voting phase of the first annual POD Awards, I want to gauge your opinion on who the nominees should be, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Also, if you have any ideas for other categories that we should vote on, please share them in the comments section.

Voting will commence for the POD Awards later this week, so make sure to leave a comment soon on any suggestions or ideas you have.

Also best TD Celebration

I think this is a year to celebrate, so lets ring in the guys who like to have fun. Or you could do a “spirit” player if you wear a skirt.

Playoffs for Christmas!!

by StaffordSuperBowlMVP on Jan 30, 2012 5:23 PM EST reply actions

Too obvious...

Titus Young would win in a land slide, there’s really no point. Leshoure didn’t play, Fairley barely played and really no other rookie played except Hogue and he didn’t really make much of an impact.

IMO

MVP: Stafford. Johnson had an amazing year, but Stafford brought him to next level.
Defensive MVP: Cliff Avril
Offensive Player: Megatron. Amazing season
Defensive Player: Chris Houston. He deserved the Pro Bowl. He got the INTs and the TDs
Breakout Player: Titus Young. Was anyone expecting those numbers after missing Camp?
Offensive Play: Staff’s run against Oakland. He put it all in the line without anyone knowing. Pure skill
Defensive Play: Bobby’s Pick 6 against Romo. That changed the game.
Game of the Year: Vs Chargers. Got to the playoffs; for sure the best game

That would be implying that those were games

I think we dont discuss us cause it would be under most dominate game. But in my opinion a game is a battle and a close one where a few plays dictate the course of the game and to me the Raiders or Cowboys was it.

Mine

MVP — Stafford

Offensive Player of the Year — Calvin Johnson

Defensive Player of the Year — Stephen Tulloch

Breakout Player of the Year — Stephen Peterman( can’t give Stafford every award)

Defensive Play of the Year — Bobby Carpenter’s TD return against the Cowboys to start the comeback

If you liked nail biters how about both Minnesota games, San Fran, and even the Carolina game.

I choose the Overtime bomb to CJ as the play of the year

We had a lot of nail biters thats for sure and i wouldnt be surprised if we lost some fans this year, medically speaking

Worst Officiated Against GB Week 17

Worst Call…. all the controversial calls in that game lol

by Liontotheextreme on Jan 30, 2012 9:34 PM EST up reply actions

Im torn between GB (so many) & NO

Worst Call; Titus Young’s Non-TD call VS NO in the playoffs as we had no challenges left due to 2 previous BS calls in the first half. Then all the generous spots, missblown whistle, etc, in the second half, yes definately NO.

We've become so dumb we don't know how dumb we've become. Source Obscure.

k

nominations (to be clear, I’m not trying to vote for all, these are nominations, if everyone just nominated Megatron what’s the point of having the voting post):
—MVP = Megatron, Stafford, Tulloch, Suh
—Offensive Player of the Year = Megatron, Stafford, Pettigrew, TDY
—Defensive Player of the Year = Suh, Tulloch, KVB, Houston
—Breakout Player of the Year = TDY, Durant, Spievey, Donohue
—Offensive Play of the Year = Stafford to Megatron in _ game, NB toe drag swa
—Defensive Play of the Year = Avril 1st ff/td, Carp pick 6
—Game of the Year = Bears at home, Cowboys comeback

I like the suggestions so far. Now how about some more off-the-wall perhaps POD specific
- most wanted to be cut
-
most likely to get a fanpost
- most overrated by PoD (as you view it)
-
most underrated by PoD (as you view it)

Also best celebration.

My take

Nominations:
*As a disclaimer, should we limit one award to each? Mainly to avoid CJ or Staff winning both offense and overall mvp? (one for each I’d say)

- MVP
Stafford, Calvin, Avril, Hansonm special shoutout to Schwartz too maybe?

- Offensive Player of the Year
Stafford, Calvin, Smith, Pettigrew, Raiola maybe?

- Defensive Player of the Year
Tulloch, Avril, Suh, KVB, Durant, Houston

- Breakout Player of the Year
Titus, Stafford, Pettigrew, Houston, Donahue?

- Offensive Play of the Year
CJ over double coverage against Dallas; CJ bomb on MNF; Scheffler one-hander (can’t remember against who); Titus catch agsint KC I think? (one of his first ones was mind-boggling)

- Defensive Play of the Year
Carpenter’s pick-six against Dallas; Houston’s pick-six against Dallas; Avril’s pick six against SD; KVB’s strip sack against SF

- Game of the Year
at Dallas; vs Chicago; at Minnesota; at Oakland; vs Carolina

Suggestions:

- Best Comeback (although I feel all of these will be nominated for best game)
- Best Celebration
- Most Nerve-Wrecking Moment
- Most Heartbreaking Loss
- Most Dominant Win (the 3 blowouts, and maybe Carolina)

by blubomber17 on Jan 31, 2012 5:08 AM EST reply actions

Offensive MVP – Stafford has to win it.
Defensive MVP – Avril was the best guy on the line (where was Suh?)
Breakout Player of the Year – Stafford showed why we drafted him #1
Offensive Play of the Year – Odd one… The long pass to CJ down the sideline very late in the first Vikings game to put us into overtime. It was the moment that people said “These Lions are different. They are not going to roll over and die in the face of adversity.”
Defensive Play of the Year – When Carp got a pick 6 in the Dallas game. It changed the tide for that game and made us the story for the first half of the season.
Game of the Year – MNF vs Bears. It felt like my SuperBowl
