Playoff Referee schedule released

LINKY

Tony Corrente's crew will be officiating the Lions/Saints matchup this week. The Lions have only seen them once this year... vs the Kansas City Chiefs.

Referee Tony Corrente overcame huge obstacles this season, most significantly having being treated for an illness late in the season causing him to miss three weeks. He and his crew received this NFC Wild Card Playoff assignment.

Star-divide

In week 2, there were only 12 penalties called total (4/35yds-Lions, 8-70yds Chiefs). From the article, the Umpire in the game will be substituted with a 20yr vet.

As a fan, I'm just glad it isn't the same crew as last week nor the previous Saints game.

Good News

Though, when the fans can make judgement as to which ref they would rather have in their game, then the whole ref thing is starting to get suspect. The reffing in the games is supposed to be a constant.

Agree.

I wonder if Schwartz spends any time reviewing film of the refs.

I'm sure they do... as do all coaches

The reason I say yes is because at halftime of the Thanksgiving game against GB, Mike McCarthy was saying in an interview that they had “scouted” that particular officiating crew and noticed that they called a ton of penalties in general. That game was also penalty filled. All this does is prove that when it comes to the NFL, No rock is left uncovered. I’m sure the Detroit staff is no different.

Do you remember in the 70s and 80s they used to have

“Sebra hunts” where the players would ‘accidentally’ run through a ref after or during a play? I wish we could do that again.

by ATL Lion on Jan 6, 2012 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

why is it ???

That the ref’s , almost play a bigger part in the game then the starting players?
Lived in LA for 5 yrs , during the Bad Boys years and even then it was ok to HATE on the Detroit Teams , especially by the ref’s and umps !!!!

Personally, I don't

Its like choosing the shiniest turd. Its going to be shit regardless, the only question is exactly how bad it will smell.

It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

Twitter is for pussies. I follow people in real life.

Be still my thundering heart

This was one of my biggest concerns going into this game, because I’m sick of the lame officiating week in and week out.
