The bright silver lining

(Sorry if this post is not spaced. It never publishes the way I type it. I apologize and I hope it does not keep you from reading) Last night's game brought on so many emotions in me that I literally kept thinking this can't be good for my heart. I was incredibly nervous, excited, anxious, jubilant, angry, sad, confused, ("where's the flag?" lol)or exhausted at some point in those 3 hours. The one emotion I didn't the feel, not even for a second, was dissapointed. We Lion's fans could have told you how good Calvin Johnson was before the start of the season. We could have told you about the talented young tight ends. We could have told you about all the talent acquired so far by Mayhew and co., and how this team was a team on the rise. What we could not tell you was how far this team could rise. We couldn't tell you because of the many questions still left unanswered about Matthew Stafford. We can tell you now that this team can rise as high as it wants to, because it has no ceiling. What Matthew Stafford has done this year may have gone seemingly unnoticed by all the so called "experts", but it certainly hasen't gone unnoticed by us Lion's fans. It seems as though Stafford is going unnoticed no more. What he has accomplished this season is truly remarkable. I'm checking my Detroit bias at the door here guys. I would argue that Stafford's season this year was among the top 15 regular seasons by ANY QB TO EVER PLAY THE GAME OF FOOTBALL. Yes, I just said it. Think i'm crazy? Go look at the numbers. Go look at the numerous clutch plays all year long. Look at setting the NFL record in comebaks this year. Look at the stellar play at the end of the Raiders game, engineering two incredible drives in the last 5 minutes. Including a 98 yard drive in the last 2 minutes. What was even more impressive to me was his play last night. Going in to the hardest place to play in the NFL in your first playoff game in an incredible challenge. Especially when it's your what second season? (in terms of playing time) Stafford was close to lights out last night. The first int the wideout fell down. The second Greer made one hell of a play. We have an absolute stud playing at the quarterback position guys. An absolute stud. I'll say it right now. If Matthew Stafford stays healthy and the Lions keep Calvin Johnson for the next decade he has the CHANCE to go down as the best to ever play the game. No, i'm not on the crack pipe. Aaron Rodgers was no where close to Matthew Stafford at 23. Neither was Brady, Manning,Montana, Elway, Brees, or anyone else aside from Dan Marino imo. I have no doubt in my mind that he will go down as a hall of famer if all the things I mentioned before are able to happen. I realize that what i'm saying is so much harder done than said, but I truly have faith that it will happen. We have everything it takes to become a dynasty right now. As we all know we have a ways to go. I just get so excited when I see what Stafford and CJ have done in such a short time playing together. They already can't be stopped. Hell, they can barely be contained. If Stafford is able to do things almost just as good as Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Manning right now, I cant imagine what he will be able to when he enters the prime of his career like the players are right now. It's funny. None of those qb's could do what Stafford has done at 23. The only that's even close was Manning at 23. I know some of you probably think that i'm off my rocker, but I see the silver lining that is Matthew Stafford. I see it getting brighter and brighter every single day.

There's no doubt about that

Stafford’s one of the top guys in the game, and I see no reason why his pairing with Calvin can’t continue to produce on the same level, or even improve, next season.

These guys should be something special.

We have our man. It's Stafford. It's Suh. It's Calvin. It's Delmas. What we need is Man Number Two to stand up.

Yes we have a very good QB, and he has some great weapons.

This offseason, the Lions need to keep Linehan and develop Titus and Pettigrew further. The O Line needs some shoring up, but that is a longer term job. I would be surprised if the Lions make any significant changes on the O Line for the start of the 2012 season.

It would be great to keep another year of continuity, with the added impact of Best, Leshoure, and Smith in the backfield.

"I’m sorry for all the people who want us to run the ball 40 times a game, but we’re going to put the ball in No. 9’s hands and he’s going to make plays for us like he did today," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. Amen to that Jim!

Need to

sign Calvin to long term deal. I know we have him locked up and can franchise him the year after, but I would rather they sign him now.

That plus Cap

As I harped on all season long we need to get him an extension to just cut down his cap space in the next two years until the new TV contracts start in 2014. That boost in revenue will allow us to keep him for another 5 years after 2014 easily and still make him a very rich player.

"That's my quarterback man"- T.O.
