Hello everyone,
I have been visiting this website for a little while, but until now have yet to post. I am a diehard lions fan, and I tend to be more optimistic than some other fans. With that being said, the start of the season has been a great disappointment to me. The reason I am posting this, is because I just finished reading Anwar's latest mlive article, where he meandres about his pregnant wife for a while, before telling us that the lions suck, and that although they are 1-3, they SHOULD BE 0-4 (whatever that means). Our team doesn't suck, btw... We are just part of the NFL's bulging middle class. Since we were in the lower class during the Millen era, this is an improvement. When you are in the middle class, you are good enough to fight for a playoff spot, But not good enough to threaten for a title. Last year, we won these flukey games... This year... not so much. I think we are more than a couple more moves away from threatening for a title. And that is why I am not freaking out about our draft strategy. The great teams don't worry about fixing a need right away... They stay patient, focus on a plan, and let their team grow together. We have two glaring weaknesses (pass coverage, run game). We tried to address both in the offseason, while at the same time keeping our focus on the future. So far the results are mixed... But I don't feel we are any worse than last year, or are in any worse position than any of the other middle class teams. (Chicago - age, turnover prone; Philadelphia- health, run d; Dallas-window closing, 4th quarter toughness) So Football outsiders says we have the toughest remaining schedule according to DVOA - We will fight through it, and be better in the long run because we are sticking to a plan.
