It's Tuesday and I'm hungover. Not because I drank last night. Nope. My hangover is entirely Lions related. I went through many phases of disappointment last night through this morning.
And here I sit.
I am no longer angry. I am no longer frustrated. I am no longer violent towards inanimate objects. I have relaxed. And now I'm trying to make sense of it all. Many thoughts have found their way to my mind, and I wanted to share them with you guys since I assume many of you are having the same thoughts.
How can ALL of our RBs fumble in the red zone? I honestly don't understand how that can even happen. Is this some sort of joke?
Logan is frightening. Seriously. He is worse than any horror movie I have seen. I think I yelled SOMETHING at the TV every time he fielded a punt (I use that term loosely). Seriously, how can you even go for a bouncing punt after you already miffed a punt and gave the other team the ball. I know he caught it, but still... The fact is, when he does return it, it just isn't good enough to warrant the mistakes.
Stafford sure has been consistent this year. And not in a good way. I love the guy, but he's bringing back memories of frustrations from when he played for the Dawgs. Stafford has always been streaky, and I've been waiting for him to "snap out of it" but we're in week 8 now, I wonder if there's something more to it than him just snapping out of it. I guess this is a nod to the Linehan question.
Our defense played good enough to win a freakin' Superbowl. 3 points I put squarely on Logan, and to essentially give up only 10 points, that should be a W. Even to hold that Logan miffed punt to a field goal was amazing. Kudos, defense! You are the only reason I came down off the ledge last night.
I hate to say this, because it is a thing I've been trying to ignore, but there have been many times this season when despite my conscious effort not to, I have said to myself "same old Lions". Is it the same old Lions? Are we just all hype because we have been so bad for so long that once we semi- get it together it is over exaggerated??
Broyles looks lost. Good job on the TD, man, but you gotta study up this week. And Stafford, throw him the ball! There were at least 2 plays I can think of where Broyles was wide open (once in the endzone) and Stafford threw it to somebody who was covered. These guys gotta get on the same page. I do NOT feel as comfortable with CJ, Titus, and Broyles, as I would have at the beginning of the season.
Other than Logan, I thought our ST looked pretty good. Hester was for the most part contained, Weems as well. Nick Harris was awesome. And a blocked kick? (And Suh almost blocked another...) I think there has been major improvement here. Now if we could just get Patrick Peterson...
I was up by only 4 points in fantasy to a guy who had Jason Hanson. I was never so disappointed to win. Something has to change with our offense. I don't see why they don't go no huddle more when it always seems to be so successful. The offense should NOT be this team's problem. In 4 drafts we have 5 first rounders and 3 second rounders on the offense. That's not even including CJ.
Schwartz, Schwartz, Schwartz.
Everybody is calling for his head. I honestly don't know what to think about this. I mean, can we blame coaching for the RBs fumbling in the red zone? Is it coaching that leads to a miffed punt? More importantly, and Josh said it a few times in another thread, what is different? Nothing. Why all of a sudden is everybody calling for schwartz's head? I was expecting to lose this game anyway. Now I admit, the Bears essentially gave them the game on a silver platter and they blew it, but still, I don't see any significant difference in what Schwartz has done that would warrant such a swing from positive to negative this one week. Sure, maybe it has been building with some of you, and I understand there is the opinion that execution is on the coaches as well. I'm on the fence on the Schwartz issue, but I definitely think a coaching change mid-season is a horrible idea. Unless that is, we've already given up this season, and are playing for draft position. Besides, the defense has been looking pretty good. Aside from that first drive and a few runs gashing them here and there, I don't know what more you want out of them. If you're gonna blame him for the offensive woes, shouldn't Schwartz get any credit for the defense playing well? Seems only fair.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on this. What are yours? How do you feel about the season? Is it over? Is there any way we can possibly make the playoffs? Is it too much to ask for that our team goes throughout the season like they play games and maybe we have a serious run in store for the second half?
And one more thing, the fire the coach poll. I am honestly curious to see where POD stands on this:
The Lions should fire:
Schwartz (I'm assuming the new HC would hire a new OC and DC) (4 votes)
Linehan (18 votes)
Crossman (7 votes)
UndaDawg (0 votes)
Nobody. Everybody needs to relax. (23 votes)
Other (please specify in the comments) (1 vote)
