Now that Nate Burleson is going to be out for the year (even if we make it to the Superbowl), we need a replacement. I think that a trade would make absolutely no sense, so that leaves free agency. I think that the best free agent we could sign to replace Nate is Plaxico Burress.
Plaxico Burress, as many of us know, is an Superbowl hero who is trying to redeem himself after going to prison for two years. He had solid numbers with the Jets last year, 45 catches for 612 yards and 8 touchdowns (not bad for a guy with Mark Sanchez throwing the ball to him). He is 35 years old.
I think that Burress is a veteran who could help us a ton in the redzone, where we have been struggling. He is a 6'5 receiver, and has always been a threat inside the 20. If the Lions had a package with two 6'5 receivers, they would never not score a touchdown in the redzone. You can't double both of them, and either will win battles for jump balls in the endzone.
Also, I think that he would come play for Detroit cheap, because if he plans to continue playing, any kind of exposure would be good for when he would be a free agent next season.
What are your thoughts? Do any of you think there is a better option at free agent? There can't be anybody on our practice squad that would be as good as Plaxico, right?
