Lions trade rumors: Detroit trying to deal for veteran safety?

Leon Halip-US PRESSWIRE

According to a report, the Detroit Lions are trying to deal for a veteran safety before Thursday's trade deadline.

Although safety Louis Delmas is considered day-to-day with a sore left knee, Jason La Canfora reports that the Detroit Lions "have some concern" about his status. Even if he wasn't dealing with a left knee injury they probably would have reason to be concerned considering it's a rarity that Delmas is healthy. He's by far their best safety, but he's hurt quite often.

Because of this, it looks like the Lions may try to trade for a veteran safety before Thursday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, at least that is what La Canfora is reporting.

If the Lions make any move, it'll probably involve improving the secondary. The pass defense hasn't been terrible in 2012, but it definitely could be better, and these next couple days are really the Lions' last chance to add any real contributors before next offseason.
