The Detroit Lions drop to 4-6 after a home loss to the Green Bay Packers 24-20. It was a game full of missed opportunities for the Lions and this game was in their grasp. Detroit folded on their last defense and offensive possessions. Matt Stafford (17-39 266 yds 1 td 2 int) was inconsistent the entire game making errant, inaccurate throws and miss communicating with receivers, particularly Tony Scheffler. Calvin Johnson (5 rec 143 yds 1 td) started slow and Mikel LeShoure (19 rush 84 yds 1 td) had some nice runs, but didn't look decisive enough.
The Lions defense played well until the end. They also got help from Green Bay kicker Mason Crosby who couldn't kick it into the ocean. Nick Fairley had an unbelievable game with 4 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble. He was causing trouble in the backfield all day. He played extremely well against the run. CB Drayton Florence came back off injury into a depleted secondary and played well. Even though they held the Packers in check, bottom line, they couldn't get it done when they were up by 6 with 5 minutes to play. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense marched down the field and took the lead.
The Detroit Lions are on the outside looking for a chance at the playoffs. A Motown miracle would have to happen for that to come to fruition.
The Lions defense has played well enough this season to give the team a chance considering the obvious holes in the secondary, but the offense has been disappointing. Matt Stafford has to correct his accuracy issues and start getting on track right way in games. It has to happen on Turkey Day on a short week against the AFC’s best, the Houston Texans.
