Lions Notes: Check Out Barry Sanders' New Commercial
- Barry Sanders is in a new commercial for a car dealership:
- NFL Network's Michael Lombardi thinks the Lions need to "rebuild their offensive line." I really can't disagree. They have gotten by with the current O-line, but imagine how good they could be with an elite O-line?
- Running back Ricky Williams, who nearly signed with the Lions last season, retired earlier this week.
- The Lions fan who called in a bomb threat on the Superdome during the Lions-Saints playoff game has been indicted on a sending threatening communications charge.
- This year's Super Bowl halftime show with Madonna drew an astounding 114 million viewers, making it the most-watched halftime show in history. Wonderful.
- Super Bowl 46 had an average of 111.3 million viewers, which also set a record.
- A total of 117.7 million viewers tuned in to the Super Bowl from 9:30-9:58 p.m. (All of these numbers come via Richard Deitsch.)
- Overall, 166.8 million people watched the Super Bowl at some point. That was the biggest total audience in television history.
- Ndamukong Suh was interviewed when he was in London for Chrysler UK's Super Bowl party.
- Ever wonder what Peyton Manning's face would look like in NFL logos? Wonder no more. Here's what the Lions' "Manning face" looks like:

Creepy.

Looks like an old buddy of mine … ex-bouncer, biker. I can visulaize him on his bike with his Nazi helmet on and long hair flowing in the breeze.
I thought that actor really was Barry Sanders in the commercial
until he spiked the football.
sure looked like him though…
Hey that's a timeout, I can play right? yeah, get me--get the F-- Help me up...I can throw the ball if you need me to throw the ball...

That is exactly what I thought the first time I saw that commercial.
"I’m sorry for all the people who want us to run the ball 40 times a game, but we’re going to put the ball in No. 9’s hands and he’s going to make plays for us like he did today," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. Amen to that Jim!
He looked so uncomfortable spiking the ball...
He was like….I don’t know how to do this. lol
Make it bleed GG...make it bleed.
Can someone please define what an "elite offensive line" is?
And please let us know which NFL team currently has one.
Every offensive line is a work in progress IMO. I think the best NFL teams are constantly upgrading and retooling their O Lines. I don’t disagree that the Lions need to be more aggressive in that process, but a total rebuild is highly unlikely.

See Saints
That is the closest I can think of without doing any real research.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-There are approximately 45 cats and dogs for every person born.
-Only 1 out of 10 dogs born ever get a home.
-Only 1 out of 12 cats born ever find a home.
-Approximately 800 dogs & cats are KILLED each HOUR in the United States, because there are not enough homes for them!
That's a pretty good example.
But they got stuffed by the Niners when they tried to run the ball. I think their pass blocking looks better than it really is because of Brees and his quick decision making and outstanding pocket presence. Overall, I would agree that they could be the best O Line in the NFL. Or the Houston Texans. They dominated the Ravens D Line in that last playoff game.
I think those O Lines are very good, but they are not great by any means.

Forgot about the Texans!
Nice pick there.
You can see the productivity of their RBs after Foster went down.

I was hoping to have someone actually define what an "Elite" O Line is.
I guess I would define it by their results; ie. Top six in the NFL in both run blocking and pass protection. Which the Saints meet. They are a top five rushing team in total yards, and YPC, and they are second in sacks allowed, but first in sacks allowed per 100 attempts. They also pass the eyeball test with two perennial All Pros [Nicks and Evans at Guard] along with decent starters at the other positions, while being part of one of the top three scoring offences in the NFL.
I still think that Brees should get a lot of credit for his ability to quickly read, recognize, and deliver the pass when he drops back. He takes a lot of pressure off the blockers due to his leadership and fantastic pocket awareness.

Brees, you have to give some of the credit to the Line too
He sat back there for an eternity against us at times. I saw him order and eat 2 sliced of pizza on one drop back…….

I think they need to improve the O-Line
However, I don’t think they need to completely overhaul it. Having a healthy set of running backs can make the line look a lot better as well as having an efficient QB.
New Orleans is a great example of this. that isn’t to say their guys aren’t talented, but they get a lot of help from their running backs and the fact that Brees is very efficient in what he does. That means the guys don’t have to hold their blocks as long every time keeping them fresher through the game. Not to mention Brees being Brees keeps more guys in coverage so that also helps the O-Line not having to be outnumbered on every play.
this is something the Lions could emulate to a degree with an improvement in the run game. Matt is only going to get better so between those things some deficiencies in the o-line can be hidden a bit.
I really wish Ricki would've signed with Detroit last year....
he was the back we needed in the playoffs.

There are actually a series of commercials
if you click through the link there are 2 more. I looked at them last week. would almost be worth it to go to Oklahoma (not a slight on OK, just it is far from MD) to buy a car if Barry sold it to me.
