Adding to the theme....

Rather we like to admit it or not, after what some deem a successful season our LIONS now have a label. As a team we are the Detroit Lions, but within our team we have a “High Powered Offence” and a “Dirty Defense“.

The start of the 2011-2012 season the Lions D line went out looking for a name, the fans delivered Detroit’s “Silver Crush“. During the season I believe the media labeled the Lions Defense as” Detroit’s Dirty D”. As sports fans some see “Dirty” while others see “TENACIOUS”. Call it what you will but as diehard Lions fans some of us like the theme. So Roll On….

Anyone feel that adding Cortland Finnegan only adds to the theme.

Finnegan incidents are as followed-

-threw New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith to the ground by his helmet.
-called for unnecessary roughness after hitting Denver Broncos guard Chris Kuper after Kuper's helmet was off.
-on field fight with Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson.

Adding Cortland Finnegan to our already aggressive defenses style of play could be a complete “Personal Foul” nightmare, but then again it could also lead to a VERY SCARY defense.

Being an actual contributor to the team is much more important then a players “Style of Play” but you cannot deny Finnegan talent.

It's the aspect of his game that I don't like

Besides that, who really would want the moniker of being a dirty team? That just means where talent and ability fail we’ll play dirty. No thanks! I’d rather have them known for hard and punishing play that will hurt you but they don’t have to cheat to do it. Granted you can’t fit that on a Tshirt.

I'm all aboard the Finnegan bandwagon

With that said, I doubt he comes here, but it would be good to see a high end corner in a Lions uni.

Honestly, you can disagree (I know Josh would), but I’d rather see a dirty defense than a cupcake one. Having another ‘Bad Boys’ squad in Detroit would be pretty sweet.

I am ok with pressing the line

No problem at all with that. I also know, that if you press the line long enough, you will cross the line. I am ok with that occasionally too.

What I am not ok with is coaches that “excuse” those line crosses and players that deny they ever crossed the line. Man up, it is a violent sport. Things will happen. Take responsibility for your actions and move on.

A coaches job in this instance is to push the players to the line and then chew their butts out when they cross it. A players job is to get as close to the line and possible and maybe even cross it, as long as they do not get caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

You do not win in the NFL by shying from the line.
