With the 23rd pick in the 2012 NFL draft...
The Lions have a lot of flexibility in this years draft. They could go defense and upgrade an average at best secondary, or bolster an aging offensive line and strengthen an already potent offense. I personally am leaning towards Jenkins or Konz. I think Backus can be effective for another year even with injury concerns and this past year I beleive Raiola was our biggest problem on the O line. He frequently got demolished by big DTs and gets no push in the run game. Jenkins could be our number 2 this year and eventually pass up Houston. So what do you think?

I voted Adams, although I am doubting he will be there.
Funny about Glenn, I have read some scouting reports that call him an elite pass blocker, and that his weakness is his run blocking. And I have read the exact opposite. If Adams is not available, I would like to see the Lions take Glenn. He seems to be an excellent fit for a Guard in the Lions system, and he could serve as a back up for the Tackles too.

Glenn has the versatiltiy the Lions love
I don’t think Adams will make it to 23. Some how doubt Glenn will either but I think if they had to choose Glenn would probably win out because he can pretty much play everything but center to some acceptable level. He would make a tremendous right gaurd to start though.

I think we should go oline.
Olineman joining an NFL team are, imo, usually more effective than db’s, at first. You get more olineman during the draft, and develope who you have or get a free agent db. This may be most effective for a team that is close to what is needed to make a strong push in the playoffs, or possibly get to the sb.
Did you guys see the size of that chicken?
I'm really leaning toward Konz
Thinking back to the last few years, I don’t remember but a handful of times we had succussful runs up the middle, and Konz would open the playbook up more by allowing us to do that. My second choice would be Glenn. IMO, he would be an immediate upgrade over Peterman. Either way, we can’t lose. I think that the other positions are more of a crap shoot and would not follow Mayhew’s BPA approach. Just my two cents.

R.I.P Tom Kowalski. You will be sorely missed.
Konz appears to be the fan choice right now
Most mocks have Konz going after the Lions but I have seen a couple with him going before our pick at 23. We definitely need to find our next starting center and get him in here to learn from Raiola before his career is over. Konz appears to be a dominate center that anyone would want at the next level. Still I am not sure the Lions will value Konz as BPA at the 23 spot. Still there are some good centers availalbe later in the draft. If we could get Adams or Martin in the first round and a Brewster or Jones in the 3-4 we could really start the rebuilding of this line.
You really are pushing konz here
No obvious flaws? It took me less than 5 minutes to find scouting reports that give some flaws. Oddly, one flaw cited a lot was his size. They said he was too tall for a center and would have trouble getting low with Pro sized DTs.
In the back of their minds
I think Devon Still and Jerel Worthy would disagree with that cited flaw.

I think interior line needs to be addressed
The biggest whole in the offense is an inability to run up the middle.
I couldn't think of a better signature.
I like Konz
But thats only cause I think Glenn will be gone. I’d rather have Cordy at 23.

I think the Lions come out better if they....
Take Cordy Glann in the first round and then follow that with either Ben Jones or Mike Brewster in round 3. I like Konz, but I think he is not all that much better then Jones or Brewster. There is a lot of Konz hype that is blowing him up bigger and badder than he really is.
let me point out one think that people need to look at with Konz. He has missed game in both of the last two seasons with injuries. Ben Jones and Mike Brewster do not have the same injury problems that Konz had. While Konz is a more complete player, both Jones and Brewster are very fine players in their own right.

Brewster looked terrible at the Senior Bowl according to all the scout reports I read.
They said he was regularly tossed aside and abused by pretty well anyone he faced at the practices. There was some question about whether he was injured, thats how bad his performance was.

What did we see from Konz in the East-West Shrine game?
Wes Bunting downgraded his ranking on Konz after watching him for the week. He didn’t stand out much in the game either. He was just OK. There is a lot of Pete Konz over-hype going on right now. Yes, he is a good prospect, but I don’t know about elite. At times he looked kind of awkward to me. He is not nearly as athletic and fluid as people try to make him sound. Don’t take me wrong, I like Konz and I think he is a good prospect. I just don’t buy the Superman schtick going on about him. Once he was removed from the Wisconsin offensive line and he had to play with different guys he just was not as dominant. That makes me wonder how much of his success in college was good coaching rather than his own talent.

BTW, the reason that Brewster can get whipped around sometimes
is that he is longer and a bit leaner than many of the other centers in the game. At times he has a tendency to not play low enough and that allows him to get pushed off his center of gravity. That is an issue that can easily be coached up and he will be fine. Meanwhile his good feet and long arms make him a superlative pass blocker when he is staying low and anchoring well. There is nothing wrong with Brewster that cannot be fixed.
While Brewster struggled in the early practices of the Senior Bowl week, he adjusted and got better as the week progressed. During the actual game, Brewster was very good. He appears to be a “gamer” that just brings more to the real games than he does to practice. It is more important to me that a player can take to coaching than getting all bent because he had to adjust his game for different coaches.

Wish
There had been a LB option in there. More importantly, and I know I’m in the minority on this issue, a RB that can pound and stay healthy. Now maybe Mikel will be that, I’m not sold on Best being what we drafted ever again. Say all you want about our O line or D needs, what hurts our offense the most is the run game. How potent would Staff be if they DIDN’T know he was going to throw 90% of the time? But, out of the choices presented – Jenkins.
Expectations don't produce!
cordy glan is tru e rg in the nfl and konz is center or can play rg in the nfl both solid if the lions draft them at 23pick in the 1rst rd of the draft .but if micke adams or jonathan martin is thier when the lions pick both players fit how the lions draft as being the bpa at LT left on thier draft boared and on most nfl draft boared s. if you our the lions gm and you our drafting at 23pickin the draft and you have saliery cap prolems you might not want bring back your starting LT AT BIG CAP NUMBER or you might just offer him a one year deal thatis fair but cap helpfull so by useing a high drarft pick on LT you can plan long trem for cap proleames that you can sea coming dowen the road.
As much as I like Konz
I would rather have any of the three Martin, Adams and Glenn and then grab Ben Jones or Brewster Later. I just think if we go that route we will get more in return. I really like Jones the guy is a monster
If Martin's still there at 23
You take him. Same with Dre Kirkpatrick. The other four on the poll aren’t in that league.
