Potential target for Detroit at corner ?
My thoughts on our corner postion have been well known for a awhile I think. " The greatest assembley of number 2 corners ever put together". I love the Phonz, Aaron Berry and Chris Houston all as potential solutions to that number 2 spot. Sorry Wright fans I don't want to be the "hater" here but he's just to incositent for my liking at times. I'm looking to add a #1 guy who can compete with some of the top talent a WR in the NFL. Sure I could easily see Mayhew making a move to try and grab Asante Samuel, DR. Cromartie or maybe even a Marcus Trufant. What about free agency gets? Drafting corners is fine but this year there is no Patrick Peterson to solve our problems. There is some very good corners like Alfonso Denard and Dre Kirkpatrick this year. For the first time in a long time these Lions aren't building for the future anymore. There adding parts to win post season games. We need to be prepared to make a push for that ultimate goal.
Which bring me to my point. New York Giants have several free agents this year and cap room will likely cause them to let a few of the big names like Mario Manningham walk. One of those names is Texas cornerback Aaron Ross. Who has started to develop in a very good starting corner at a young age yet. While he is probably looking for his first serious pay day. I think Aaron Ross has a very good skill set to fit our system. He racked up 60 tackles this season 46 of them solo and 4 interceptions. He was a 1st round pick in just 2007. He has good size a 6'0 ft tall and 190 lbs. He may not be the ball hawk of a guy like Peterson but he's a physical corner that can cover and tackle. Played 16 games this year and 15 games later showing for the most part he is durable. Ross has 2 career touchdowns, 10 Interceptions, 2.5 sacks and 194 tackles. The assest that I really like is he is part of 2 superbowl championship teams. Arron Ross has seen first hand what it takes to win the big game not once but twice. Playoff and superbowl experince is something this team dosen't really have.
Thoughts on Aaron Ross? Would you open to paying him?

I'd rather have Terrel Thomas
He’s from the same team and they considered him their best cover corner coming into this year. He has a problem with injuries but past injuries don’t always mean you can’t get over them.

Dominating your opposition physically is great and all, but confounding them mentally is sooo much more fun.

The one think Mayhew understands is how to value a player.
Picking Stanford Routt could be a great idea depending on his price.

I vote yes!
The problem is who do we have to get rid of to make cap room for him? The Lions are going to have a tough enough time making cap without leveraging the future as it is. This should be an interesting year to see what type of magic the FO can pull off, and which talent they’ll have to trim off.
This part scares me:
For the first time in a long time these Lions aren’t building for the future anymore. There adding parts to win post season games. We need to be prepared to make a push for that ultimate goal.
While you’re correct to at least a limited degree, I hope they don’t deviate from the long term building plan too much yet. I’d love to think enough is in place to make a serious run at the SB, and be able to sustain it in following years. I just don’t see it as highly likely yet, possible yes, probable no.

Brandon Carr
If not him then Finnegan or draft Jenkins.

Ive been hearing a lot of Janoris Jenkins talk, IMO there is absolutely NO WAY he will be drafted by Mayhew.
He will be the Alphonso Smith and Chris Houston of the draft and a smart GM will get a deal on them after a two or three years. At best and I think it is a stretch, he could be a aqib talib. A high paid extreme talent that will not live up to his potential in his first contract.
