SI has their rankings up... so I'd thought I'd put my thoughts on each set of announcers .... the SI link is at the bottom. I put the better of the group in a poll below.
Let's rip some shit up!
(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)
• Brad Nessler and Mike Mayock, NFL Network: Mayock is the shit.
• Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth, NBC: Overall, I agree that these guys are one of the best(if not THE) commentators. They do have their awkward moments
(Cris: "100 out of 100 Welker catches that".... (several awkward seconds later).... AL: " That must of been 101") But really, they fit well together and you can tell that Cris loves the game.
• Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts, CBS: I really don't mind Dan Fouts... but theres also a reason he was booted from MNF.
• Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski and Jon Gruden, ESPN: I didn't watch a bunch of MNF this year... but I got to say... Jaws brings this group down. I like Tirico, can stand Gruden... but the Former Eagles QB has to go... Maybe ESPN can bring in Salisbury?
• Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, Fox:
Seriously, why are these guys ranked so high? Its like they wear Maize and Blue or something!
• Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston and Tony Siragusa, Fox: I like these guys... the backbiter's son has some game, Goose is great on the sideline... and Moose blinds the audience with his freaking huge gawdy Super bowl ring... what's not to like? And unlike the SI author... I totally think that Goose should be mentioned... He makes this team and is one of the few sideline announcers that actually talk during the play by play.
• Jim Nantz and Phil Simms, CBS: The AFC Championship game was horrible for these guys.... who usually put on a good show. I agree with the SI author.
• Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf, CBS: Oy Vei...
get ready to be dumber....
• Gus Johnson and Charles Davis, Fox: I like these guys... they need to be in more games... I mean, come'on, Gus is in Madden for christ sake! Give the guy some air time!
• Marv Albert and Rich Gannon, CBS: I've always been a fan of the backbiter. His play by play is legendary and is perfect for listening to the game on the radio. Rich is good too... overall middle of the pack guys.
• Kevin Harlan and Solomon Wilcots, CBS: Soly is okay, but I agree with the offer that he just talks too damn much (but not as much as billick.)
• Thom Brennaman and Brian Billick, Fox: Personally,
the worst crew of the year. Seriously, Billick with his retarded emotional comments and Brennaman 'Mr last week story' who has to "keep with the talking points" and can't think for himself.
• Spero Dedes and Steve Beuerlein, CBS: No Clue.
• Sam Rosen and Chad Pennington, Fox: Didn't see these two.
• Dick Stockton and John Lynch, Fox: Dick Stockton..
. please retire. Lynch, you're okay.
• Ron Pitts and Jim Mora Jr., Fox: I've always been a fan of Pitts. But didn't notice this combo this year.
• Bill Macatee and Steve Tasker, CBS: Haven't noticed these guys.
• Chris Myers and Tim Ryan, Fox: I really like Tim Ryan's technical analysis of the game... however, he's low on the todem pole and can't seem to get a good play by play guy. I highly recommend Moving the Chains on Sirius NFL... 3-7pm.
• Don Criqui and Randy Cross, CBS: Not a fan of Randy Cross. I listen to him on Sirius NFL's openning drive and find my self turning the channel more times than naught.... Derrick Brooks stinks too.
