NFL Announcers.... Who's the best of the best? (POD STYLE)

SI has their rankings up... so I'd thought I'd put my thoughts on each set of announcers .... the SI link is at the bottom. I put the better of the group in a poll below.

Let's rip some shit up!

Star-divide

(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)

Brad Nessler and Mike Mayock, NFL Network: Mayock is the shit.

Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth, NBC: Overall, I agree that these guys are one of the best(if not THE) commentators. They do have their awkward moments (Cris: "100 out of 100 Welker catches that".... (several awkward seconds later).... AL: " That must of been 101") But really, they fit well together and you can tell that Cris loves the game.

Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts, CBS: I really don't mind Dan Fouts... but theres also a reason he was booted from MNF.

• Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski and Jon Gruden, ESPN: I didn't watch a bunch of MNF this year... but I got to say... Jaws brings this group down. I like Tirico, can stand Gruden... but the Former Eagles QB has to go... Maybe ESPN can bring in Salisbury?

• Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, Fox: Seriously, why are these guys ranked so high? Its like they wear Maize and Blue or something!

• Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston and Tony Siragusa, Fox: I like these guys... the backbiter's son has some game, Goose is great on the sideline... and Moose blinds the audience with his freaking huge gawdy Super bowl ring... what's not to like? And unlike the SI author... I totally think that Goose should be mentioned... He makes this team and is one of the few sideline announcers that actually talk during the play by play.

• Jim Nantz and Phil Simms, CBS: The AFC Championship game was horrible for these guys.... who usually put on a good show. I agree with the SI author.

Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf, CBS: Oy Vei... get ready to be dumber....

• Gus Johnson and Charles Davis, Fox: I like these guys... they need to be in more games... I mean, come'on, Gus is in Madden for christ sake! Give the guy some air time!

Marv Albert and Rich Gannon, CBS: I've always been a fan of the backbiter. His play by play is legendary and is perfect for listening to the game on the radio. Rich is good too... overall middle of the pack guys.

Kevin Harlan and Solomon Wilcots, CBS: Soly is okay, but I agree with the offer that he just talks too damn much (but not as much as billick.)

• Thom Brennaman and Brian Billick, Fox: Personally, the worst crew of the year. Seriously, Billick with his retarded emotional comments and Brennaman 'Mr last week story' who has to "keep with the talking points" and can't think for himself.

• Spero Dedes and Steve Beuerlein, CBS: No Clue.

Sam Rosen and Chad Pennington, Fox: Didn't see these two.

Dick Stockton and John Lynch, Fox: Dick Stockton... please retire. Lynch, you're okay.

Ron Pitts and Jim Mora Jr., Fox: I've always been a fan of Pitts. But didn't notice this combo this year.

• Bill Macatee and Steve Tasker, CBS: Haven't noticed these guys.

Chris Myers and Tim Ryan, Fox: I really like Tim Ryan's technical analysis of the game... however, he's low on the todem pole and can't seem to get a good play by play guy. I highly recommend Moving the Chains on Sirius NFL... 3-7pm.

Don Criqui and Randy Cross, CBS: Not a fan of Randy Cross. I listen to him on Sirius NFL's openning drive and find my self turning the channel more times than naught.... Derrick Brooks stinks too.

Got no problem with Billick but Brenneman is a douche

There is no one a really like..with the exception of Mike Mayock and Brad Nessler. Mayock is what an announceer is suppose to be. Intelligent about the game with a great eye. First and foremost completely unbias.

none of the above

personally, i havent found a single announcer i like. they all blow. every damn game i wonder what they are doing that they cant watch the action. Every damn one of them miss an incredible amount and the last few years seems like they tend to make split second judgments and defend them to their death, even if it turns out they are OBVIOUSLY wrong. (like Suh’s ‘forearm shiver’ from the year before last that never happened, but i still heard about it as if talking as if it existed actually makes it so)

I'm not sure enough which I'd rather have, so I'll abstain.

However, I do know that Dick Stockton needs to retire. Thanks for the service bud, but when we’re pretty sure you have no idea where you are…it’s time to hang it up.

P.S. Thom Brennaman can suck a moldy cock, I seriously hate that asshole. Sorry for the language.

It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

What guys were commentating when Detroit played Green Bay in week 17?

I hate those guys. Remember, at halftime one said to the other “do you think detroit fans will be disapointed with this loss.”

That would be Brennaman and Billick.

…and yes, they are EASILY the worst of the group. I still don’t understand why we were stuck with those two so many times last season; Raiders, Vikings, Packers, etc. etc. Brennaman is just such a douche, too; not only does the guy suck at play-by-play, but he’s so anti-Lions in the process. I don’t know what his problem is, but man, he’s just awful.

Personally, I would have taken Sam Rosen more than we got (I think he did one of our games early on, but that was it). He usually does a fantastic job calling hockey, and from what I’ve seen, his football coverage is just as good. Ditto for Kenny Albert.

Dream Teams

Instead of the poll, how about some dream teams for the worst possible commentator combinations. I’ll start:

#1. Dick Stockton / Thom Brennaman (Can’t get a single god damn name right collectively and actually root against teams they’re commenting on)

PS – Dick Stockton was the worst, wORst, WORST of the year.

My Humble Opinion

The Best= Collinsworth and Michaels. Cris Collinsworth gives opinions and insight that only an ex-player can have, and he delivers them in an unbiased and intelligent way, while Michaels has been doing it so long that his voice is so familiar to me.

The Worst= Joe Buck. I can’t include Tryoy Aikman here because I like him for the same reasons as Collinsworth, but Buck, that annoying S.O.B., has to go. He uses a condescending tone that I just can’t stomach. I dread it when he calls our games.

2013 Superbowl Champion Detroit Lions
R.I.P Tom Kowalski. You will be sorely missed.

Pat Sumerall and Tom Brookshire, followed closely by Curt Gowdy and his AFL sidekick

whose name escapes my old ass mind, at the moment.

Collinsworth and Michaels

And its not even close.

NBC knows how to produce a football game and I wish they would replace FOX completely. The production, the announcers, the camera angles, the choice of replays are all far superior on NBC. Oh, and they stream the SNF and the Super Bowl online for free.

I can't stand Collinsworth... He's the only reason I didn't vote for Al Michaels and him..

I love Gus Johnson, so I voted for him. But if there was a different color guy on NBC it would get my vote, but Collinsworth is so fucking annoying.
