Detroit Lions Officially Cut Ties With Cody Brown

PrintWhen the Detroit Lions' list of free agents for 2012 was released, one name on there was a blast from the past. I'm referring to linebacker Cody Brown, who hadn't been heard from since he was claimed off waivers from the New York Jets last summer by the Lions. The reason for this is because he was placed on the did not report list after, well, not reporting.
With free agency set to begin in another month and some change, the Lions were in line to retain Brown's rights. He was going to be an exclusive-rights free agent, but the Lions cut him free this week, according to Dave Birkett.
The Lions officially cut LB Cody Brown earlier this week. He never reported after being claimed off waivers from Jets earlier this year

With Brown being cut, he is now an unrestricted free agent.

Brown was picked in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals in 2009 [63rd overall].
I had high hopes for this guy. I read an article on MLive that claimed Gunther and Schwartz had plans for the Lions to convert to a 3-4 defence with Brown as one outside LB and Cliff at the other.
The plan was shelved when Cody was a no show. True story. Honest.

But since everyone pretty much seems to like our safeties,Im somewhat loathe to cast aspersions. Its always hard to point fingers with folk being emotionally attached to so and so. If we just dump the wide 9, I’ll be a happy camper

I just wish they’d play in a more impressive fashion…
I’m still not sure what changes I’d like to see on our D next year, I just know that I need to see some changes. They don’t have to be drastic.
