Simms Believes Stafford Will Make Jump to Elite Status
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/behindthemic/#/nfl/2012/02/09/020912.btm_crisphil_qb
Cris Collinsworth and Phil Simms sat down to discuss which young quarterbacks they believe are the likeliest to make the jump to "elite" status.
Collinsworth brings up Newton, while Simms doesn't hesitate to nominate Matthew Stafford. After watching the video my immediate reaction was, "tell me something I didn't already know." (I personally believe throwing for 5,000 yards and 41 td's makes Stafford elite already). Still, Stafford will need the Lions brass to continue to place the right pieces around him.
Which leads me to the poll question...
ROAR.

I went with OL,
but because I believe our run game must improve for Stafford to sustain/improve upon his success. Also, how is the 4th QB to ever throw for 4,000 yards in one season not elite already? Also, I love how we can see the recent fanposts again.
Tengo el sangre del tigre.
well, an upgrade to our O line will upgrade our running game too.
Or at least I believe that.

-Only 1 out of 12 cats born ever find a home.
-Approximately 800 dogs & cats are KILLED each HOUR in the United States, because there are not enough homes for them!
That's my thinking too...
as well as imagine how much more dangerous Stafford will be if he gets a little more time to scan the field and set his feet to throw due to better protection.
OL OL OL OL OL OL OL OL OL OL OL OL OL OL OL
oh and OL!!! I am afraid I will be screaming this from my grave at times but this team needs a dominant offensive lineman. We need to find that Logan Mankins, Nick Mangold, Or Steve Hutch for this team to really become a force on offense. Matt has all the tools and weapons to succeed when healthy. We need to take the O line to the next level. Thats why I want to draft DeCastro so badly. He will never fall to us but I just feel he is the perfect fit to take our team to the next level as a playoff winner.

That and secondary
Lets be honest CB was the problem late in the season not the offense

Because of all the injuries
First 5 or 6 games the Lions had a pretty dominant pass d.

Yeah, it was the run we were losing to.
Once they figured it out, we had a ton of injuries.
That’s not to say DB isn’t #1a, but I’d rather see OL.

I know a lot of people want to see a DB
But if we’re all healthy, our corners/safeties (sans Spievey, he’s got another year to prove something for me at least) are just fine by me. Berry has got the potential to be a number 1 guy, and Houston is just fine as a #2.

We need to find a way to play better D
Whether it’s the scheme or the personnel, something needs to change there. The offense was good enough to play with anyone.

I think that he's had pretty good protection
The O-line isn’t too good at running though and we’ve got two guys who maybe only have a couple of years left in them. Staff is elite and with this season under his belt, he’ll be more so. If we want to keep him that way, we’ll need to put some new horses on that line.
I agree with SSB. Staff played at an elite level last year.
He just needs to build his resume [ie. win playoff games, continue leading one of the best offences in the NFL] to convince everyone else he is.
If I had to pick one of your options I would take O Line, but I believe he has good enough talent around him at all those positions to perform at an elite level.
"I’m sorry for all the people who want us to run the ball 40 times a game, but we’re going to put the ball in No. 9’s hands and he’s going to make plays for us like he did today," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. Amen to that Jim!
Agree that Staff is already elite
Stafford needs to just continue playing at that level. If it wasn’t for the glove / injury he would probably have had more yards this year.
I think O line as well.

Can't wait to see where Staff goes in fantasy this year
I bet he is a top ten easy

I took Stafford this past year in the 2nd round...
The only person that can attest to this is “Qush Quarrella” (my brother). But I did have the faith to take him in Rd 2…oh, and Calvin in Rd 1. It worked out ok :)

Running Game
and it’s not even close for me. He’s shown me he can handle the pressure in the pocket from a leaky o-line, but a dynamic running game would blow the roof off this bitch. Think of the play action fakes deep to Megatron? I predict his yardage would go down, but the number of touchdowns and big plays would increase dramatically.
It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

Really...
151-38 at the time of my vote. Really… Think about this… 5-1 w/ Jahvid Best (the one loss being the game he got concussed) and 5-5 without. Wins are what make Quarterbacks elite.
It's between OL and RB
The Lions have the best WR in the league, and the third most productive TE in the league already, it’s hard to get any further upgrades there. The Offensive line, at least as far as passing is concerned, is just fine, especially on the left side. If we were to draft a couple of guys to play behind Backus and Raiola, who could spend a year learning from them and could take over in 2013, I would be excited.
