Sporting News Mock Draft - Russ Lande
Russ Lande is a former NFL scout that now works for the Sporting News. His recent mock draft has the Lions selecting DE Nick Perry at #23.
Perry is a local kid (King High School), that possesses a great burst, excellent use of hands, and led the PAC-12 in sacks with 9.5. Free agency will certainly lay the ground work for some of what may occur on draft night, but the Perry selection is worth noting because it stands in stark contrast with many of the other current mock drafts, and also comes from a credible source.
23. Detroit Lions: Nick Perry*, DE, Southern Cal. Cliff Avril is a free agent who might not be back. Kyle Vanden Bosch is 33. So the Lions grab Perry, who would upgrade their outside pass rush immediately.

No thanks.
I would not be happy passing on DeCastro if he were available.

I can't take anything Russ Lande says seriously
He’s the same guy who had us taking Everette Brown with the No. 1 pick in 2009. http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2009-03-04/mock-draft-everette-brown-climbs-top

Ha.
That’s funny. I just looked that up. Everette Brown certainly doesn’t add to his credibility. Nonetheless, Perry remains an intriguing prospect.
Take care.

What Sean said! Exactly.
I am not sure what kind of scout that Lande used to be, but his Mocks are terrible.
I think he does them like that to get people to comment and call him an idiot. He is a Mock Draft Masochist.
"I’m sorry for all the people who want us to run the ball 40 times a game, but we’re going to put the ball in No. 9’s hands and he’s going to make plays for us like he did today," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. Amen to that Jim!
Hey
I mocked the Lions taking Nick Perry 2 weeks ago

Not trying to be a jerk, but shouldn’t you just make this a FanShot instead of copy/pasting his mock here?

fanshots...
Wasn’t familiar. Didn’t realize posting a mock draft was sinful. I’ll do better next time Omaha.

go throw 10 hail mary's and say 10 our mayhew's and i'll absolve you.
If you are in an elevator and there is a button marked "Laser Bay Two"... You push that button.
My son...
May our Martin Mayhew absolve you; and by His authority I absolve you from every bond of excommunication and interdict (blackouts), so far as my power allows and your needs require. [making the Sign of the Lion:] Thereupon, I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Mayhew, and of the Lewand, and of the Holy Ford. Amen.
(Pretty sure I’m about to be struck down when I hit post… wish me luck!)

No one looks at fanshots man
this is fine as a fanpost IMHO

-There are approximately 45 cats and dogs for every person born.
-Only 1 out of 10 dogs born ever get a home.
-Only 1 out of 12 cats born ever find a home.
-Approximately 800 dogs & cats are KILLED each HOUR in the United States, because there are not enough homes for them!
But he's taking away website hits for Lande.
Before he copy and pasted the whole mock here.

Take a DE in later round
We have Lojack and Willie and don’t forget we, hopefully, get a full season from Fairley.
This guy is nuts.
Ta"amu at number SIX? Please.
On a side note, Perry wouldn’t be a bad pick for us, though I don’t generally prefer drafting guys his size for 4-3 linemen.
2011 Mocks during Feb 2011...
had Nick Fairly going 1st overall as well D. Bowers. I think all Mocks are just for fun including those by the “experts”. http://walterfootball.com/draftdata2011.php
I don’t believe GMs or FO insiders are showing their hands early in the evaluation process. So throwing darts at names on a board would be as scientific as what many are posting in their mocks.
Anyway, I like Perry. But,if things fell the way he mocks, then I would prefer Konz and expect Konz since he would be the #1 at his position, likely BPA on the board and that’s how we draft.
But, Perry would continue to bolster one of our team’s strengths…1) High Powered Passing Attack 2) Relentless Attacking D-Line.
The run game and the back 7 can be addressed in later rounds or other ways. We should build on our strengths and compensate for our weaknesses. Every area will never be a strength and it takes too much to move a weakness to a strength vs simply maintaining or enhancing an already strong area . IMHO
Go Lions!!!
Almost there...
Mike Adams
Vontaze Burfict
Michael Brewster
David Molk
Great points Tmane
A plethora of mock’s get the information wrong. Hence, much of the reason they are “mock” drafts.
Rick Gosselin, Dallas Morning News, however, is a name I trust. His mock doesn’t typically come out closer to draft team though.

Any mock in February...
…is based on too little information. The statement “Cliff Avril is a FA and may not be back” says it all. A general manager is not going to be drafting people in late April based on who might be lost in FA, because that will have worked itself out in early March.
Go Lions! Go Spartans! Go Wings!

I was going to vote no
but changed it to not sure. Immediately, I would not be pleased, but depending on other transactions and the play of this kid, I can envision scenarios where I could be happy with it. Only time will tell.
It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

I could live with it but Id rather have Konz
kind of Light at 250 not sure he has the frame to put on about 15 LBS and not lose any speed
"In a perfect world, you look for the big, fast guys who can play" Jim Schwartz
he is the same size and weight as Cliff and Willie Young when they were drafted

Offensive Tackle iswhat they need to draft
They need to draft a offensive tackle to replace Backus there is enough talent in the freeagency on defense that they can sign.Hopefully Konz is there for them to draft but if not then Adams from OSU would be a good choice also.
