Free-agent cornerback Jacob Lacey was in town for a visit with the Detroit Lions last night and today. The visit was set up shortly after Eric Wright decided to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The need at cornerback became even larger with Wright's exist, and adding Lacey would at least give the Lions more depth at the position.
Although the visit did not result in a signing, Lacey seemed very impressed with what he saw and actually called the Lions the "frontrunner" for his services.
"Ain’t nothing final yet, but I really like it around here from the city to the coaches to the facility," Lacey said. "It’s a great place and I wouldn’t mind calling this home for next year.
"I still want to consult with some of my people before I sign anything, but I could definitely call them the frontrunner."
Lacey pointed to his meeting with Gunther Cunningham as his favorite part of the visit. He liked Cunningham's "fire," which isn't too surprising. Cunningham is known for his intensity, and players really seem to feed off of it.
