Should the Lions go after Cedric Benson?

The runningback situation in Detroit stinks.

Mikel Leshoure has two pot convictions, he's going to get suspended, he's coming off a significant injury, and he's never played an NFL game. To say he's going to be a contributor or not is a major crap shoot right now.

Jahvid Best has the concussion issues. He can't take too many big hits, period. The guy is definitely not going to be a work horse or long term option.

Kevin Smith gets injured all the time. He is a solid player when he's healthy and could be a great depth guy, but you can't trust him to shoulder the load.

Cedric Benson is coming off three consecutive 1000 yard seasons where he has been pretty healthy. He's a 227lb bruiser that can get tough yards between the tackles. The guy would be a major upgrade for us and would come reasonably cheap. It seems like he has put his personality problems behind him and is concentrating on playing football while he still can. He'll be thirty this year, but he still has some gas left in the tank. Compared to our other options, he seems like the obvious choice.
