I have done a lot of research. My brain is fried. And he is what I think I now know about the Lions upcoming draft.
1. This pains me to say but I do not think we will be drafting an offensive tackle in the first 3 rounds. This makes me want to cry but there are a few reasons I am almost certain of this. The tackle class is weak. The Guard Class is absolutely stacked. I have never seen anything like it. There are at least 7 potential above average starting guards. Another 4-5 guys that will at least be as good as Peterman if not a bit better. I don't envision any circumstance where Peterman's successor is not taken in this draft. Its very likely he will be a starter sooner rather than later. Here is the list. Its impressive.
Glenn, Silatolu, Brooks, Zeitler would all start over Peterman from day one IMHO
Washington and Oseleme will fight him for the starting job this year and take it next year
Allen Nix Kelemente and Burgstrom will all back up Peterman this year and challenge next year.
2. We will not take a Corner in the first round. Gilmore and Kirpatrick would both fit for us well. But they won't be on the board. The good news is that this draft is BEYOND loaded at corner. It may be a blessing in disguise. We will almost certainly be going with a corner in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Robinson Boykin Trumain Johnson Josh Norman or Chase Minnifeild
And then there are the sleep guys : Hayword, Flemming, Dwight Bently, Keith Tandy, Isaiah Frey
I mean the Corner class is DEEP
3. We will draft a WR early. Not in the 2nd though. In the first HIll or Wright. In the 3rd McNutt or T.Y.Hilton or Devon Wylie. If any of these fell to the 4th it would be automatic card in.
We will not draft a Corner or an Offensive Lineman in the first round at 23. DE, LB, WR, or maybe even a Safety. But it won't be a Cb or anyone on the Oline. No matter how much we all want it.
Janoris Jenkins will go in the first round withing 5 picks of our pick. Just so the debate will continue for years.
