Did anyone else catch the Mike and Mike interview with Todd McShay this morning? Golic wasn't going on about the Jets, so I listened for a while. Anyway, an apparent Lions fan calls in and asks if there was any chance that Detroit trades the house to move up and take Trent Richardson. McShay's response (paraphrased because I can't remember every word):
No chance. The Lions have taken a RB high the last two years. They just need to keep them healthy and on the field.... The Lions have to take a CB. Do you realize they haven't taken any CBs in the draft for the last four years? That's one of the most athletic positions on the field. In addition to the secondary, think about gunners and such... If they don't go CB in the first round, they will probably go DE. Cliff Avril is franchised this year and he is aging...
Now I agree with RB comment and find the bit about no CBs the last four years a bit insightful. It goes downhill from there though. We know that Mayhew isn't going to target one or two positions at any draft slot. More likely, there are three or four postions he won't draft in the first round, and everything else is BPA. As far as Cliff aging, didn't he just turn 26?
I have a feeling McShay combined his comments about Detroit's DEs and meant to mention KVB. I may have just heard him wrong. Then again, I find most of the "draft analysts" love to hear themselves talk and fill the air with a lot of BS.
