I think those of us that have been Lion fans need to bear in mind the changing dynamics our draft has gone through in the last 5 years. Initially living in the "prime" slots and drafting in the first 5 slots of each round. Moving to moderate success and picking, what was it, 13th last year. This year picking 23, new ground for all connected with the Lions in the last decade.
Perhaps our choices do reflect more "ifs" than "sure things" isn't that the way it is supposed to work. Sure we question, prod and poke, and sometimes even doubt the rational of the FO, but thats what makes it more fun. We are at a transition point, moving from a team that lacked direction to a team that seems to not only have a plan, but is beginning to succeed while using it.
It seemed to me that the identified needs before the draft where OL, CB, LB, and RB. Some added one or subtracted one, whatever. The Lions addressed OL and had a highly ranked BPA (Reiff) fall to them in the 1st. We have (at a minimum) addressed depth issues in CB and LB. We have a potential pressure rusher (Lewis) in the 4th and the all time reception leader (compared by some to W. Welker) in the second (Broyles) and most wins ever UFA QB (Moore).
IMO it's a little early to worry we didn't get the top guy at any position.
