In reading what I can find on POD about the Lions updated uniforms, I'm hearing a lot of "meh". There are two changes besides the materials and I am fan both and I think we all should be a bit more excited.
First was already touched on, matte silver pants.

In the promo pictures it appears to match the helmet much better than in the photo you will see below, but we won't know until we see it on the field. I think Nike tried to match the pants to the silver on the jersey and not the silver on the helmet.
The other change is my favorite, no more 80's little league collar. This makes the jersey flow much better, much like the Turkey Day throwbacks.
Now, here is old home Reebok jersey:
(this is the "Elite" jersey, an exact game replica, note the change in fabrics from chest to stomach) Sidenote...This is commonly known as the sweatbox because it changes colors when wet faster than the other material Nike uses for the chest of the jersey
The lack of a collar is even more pronounced on the white road uni''s. The white jerseys were posted on detroitlions.com today.
Old whites:
(this is a "Game" jersey, the cheaper fan replica...for only $100)
-since this is a fan jersey, you can see there is no "fly wire" collar. There is also not a different fabric on the stomach as you see on the home jersey above. .
Here is what the Nike mannequin looked at the unveiling in normal lighting. I think they are going to look much better than the old uniforms on the actual field of play.

On a final note, the NFL has said publicly that teams will release alternate uniforms on their own timeline. I would love to see the lions do something unique. Granted the turkey day uni's are the best throwbacks in the league, but it would be fun to see us honor our heritage in different way once a while. Here are some crazy ideas for your entertainment.
How about going back to the 1948 Lions uniforms for one game?
>Of maybe all the way back to our first season, as the 1933 Portsmouth Spartans.
It's good to have some fun with the uniforms. I'm sure there are going to be a ton of Curmudgeons that are going to hate any sort of change, but lighten up, it's still just a game after all. Besides, it won't matter what we are wearing, as long as we are winning. Cheers.
