I feel like one of the best moves the Lions made last week was picking up Kellen Moore to be our third round quarterback. I was shocked that Moore wasn't drafted, and although I know he won't be seeing a lot of playing time behind Matthew Stafford, I think he adds a lot of value by virtue of having an incredibly high football IQ, going over film with Stafford, who is pretty smart in his own right, should make the Lions one of the most prepared teams for their opponent each week every week for as long as he is with us.
Moore was understandably disappointed when he wasn't drafted, but he said something in an interview with NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal that basically made my day today, and made me feel even better about Mayhew picking him up:
Going into it, you felt very comfortable and confident that you'd get an opportunity to get drafted. Bottom line is, it didn't happen. But it's kind of funny you end up where you'd love to go in the first place.
Moore is excited to be a Lion, and it sounds like he wanted to come to the D from the get-go. Aside from being stoked that Kellen Moore wanted to come here, it's also showing that players, even rookie players, know the direction they're going, and they're excited to join the team. This bodes well for both future drafts, and future free agency moves.
Another encouraging quote from Moore:
"I don’t think there will probably be a more motivated quarterback,"
