The NFL announced the dates for OTAs and minicamps in a press release that was just sent out. The dates for the Detroit Lions are as follows:
OTAs
- May 21-22
- May 24
- May 29
- May 31-June 1
- June 4-5
- June 7-8
Minicamps
- May 11-13 (rookies)
- June 12-14
The Lions had the choice between this upcoming weekend and next weekend for their rookie minicamp. They opted to hold it next week instead of this week. Following the rookie minicamp, teams are allowed to hold a mandatory minicamp for veteran players, and the Lions scheduled theirs from June 12-14. It is my understanding that rookies will be in attendance for that one as well.
Once the mandatory minicamp comes to a close on June 14, the team will break until training camp. Players will get a month and a half off before reconvening in Allen Park for camp, which will signal the official start of preparations for the 2012 season.
