A look at each of the Lions Backs on the roster...
Jahvid Best: An explosive and fast back when healthy Best has been extremely impressive. Although his biggest problem has been staying healthy which is the most important thing...Jahvid is 1 hit or concussion away from being forced to end his football career. He is a lock to make the team as long as he is healthy and doesn't take a shot in prseason or practice. But who knows how many more hits/years Best will last, it's a shame... Mikel Leshoure: Powerful big back who spells Best perfectly. Sadly though he tore his ACL last season and is one of the hardest injuries to recover from. Mikel was also arrested this year for marijuana posession and could face a 4 game suspension. The Lions are very anxious to see what he can bring to the table. GOOD CHANCE
Kevin Smith: Originally selected by Lions back in 2008 and was not brought back last season until the Lions needed him. He filled in great against the Panthers and looked like he might be able to save the running game. Although his injury history came back and he struggled to even make it thru each game. He is type of runner that would be a great #3 and fill in as a running back by committee.! Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAy7ESPbHTA
Stephfon Green(Rookie Penn State): Undrafted back who Lions were able to snatch up, I have to say I was very impressed with the video I found of him and he supposedly ran a 4.24 40 yard dash? Green did have problems in college and was suspended from the team before, Peterno had problems with him. He is one of my sleeper picks to make the active roster or at least the PS. LONG SHOTS
Keiland Williams: Claimed him last year after the Resdkins cut him, he is a bigger type of back who had 2TD and averaged 3.3 yards last year, I really wasn't impressed with him and I don't see him sticking. Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYUqJLcjMHI
Jerome Harrison: Signed by the Lions last season, ran the ball 14 times and had 1 catch averaging 2.9 YAC. We tried trading him to Eagles for Ronnie Brown, but the trade was voided because they found Harrison had a brain tumor which really sucks although he is recovering well. Back in 2009 he did break Jim Browns rushing record with a 286 yard and 3TD performance against the Chiefs. If he does ever play again it probably won't be with the Lions. Joique Bell: Played right here in Michigan at Wayne State and had a stellar career, he is a kid I really liked coming into the NFL. He has been with the Bills, Eagles, Saints, Colts, and now the Lions. Has played in 8 NFL games but posted no offensive stats. As a senior, Bell was the winner of the Harlon Hill Trophy, which goes to colleges best D2 football player after he rushed for over 2000 yards and 29TD's. Would love to see him make the roster but at best I see him on the PS unless injuries happen. Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCCT9rJo7Wc
Jacquise Terry(Rookie Kent State): 2 time Academic All-American, rushed for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns from 2008-2011. Also caught 57 passes for 612 yards and four touchdowns. Versatile and can even play some WR/KR, 5"11 200lb and runs between 4.5-4.6. The only way I see him sticking is PS. Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01ZRNTSFRpY
FULLBACKS/SPECIALTY PLAYERS
Stefan Logan WR/KR/RB: Many would label Logan as all those things he is only 5'6 but plays with a ton of heart. With the new kickoff rule he really struggled last season and is now 30 years of age. With the addition or Broyles, and also having guys like Titus Young who can return and also add another element to the team. It seems like Logans time may soon be up in Detroit :/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12B-0_W_7as
James Bryant FB: CFL football player who was a DE, has good size at 6'3 257lb. The Lions usually don't carry a fullback, but he was impressive enough to sign. He will have a tough road ahead to make the team as the Lions usually carry a TE who plays FB like Will Heller. Bryant will compete with the other young TE's along with heller for the lead blocking job. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmFlrzY9aV4
Will Heller TE/H-Back: Was 3rd TE and lead blocker last season, will be 31 this year. He will have some younger guys trying to take the 3rd TE spot away from him and also have to fend off Bryant for FB role. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuIX5B3VRu0
***Ryan Grant*** May soon be the newest member added to Lions RB Carousel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vH5cPoyWLSI I would love this pickup.!
FINAL PREDICTION: Best, Leshoure, Smith, Green......FB Heller (Bryant might push him.) Practice Squad- Jacquise Terry, Joique Bell(if eligible) Cuts- Harrison, Williams, Logan, (Bryant or Heller)
If Grant is signed then Smith or Green would be gone. Green would be on PS if cut.
Alright well let me know what you guys all think.???
