Does anyone know the story of how the Lions dealt with Nathan Vasher ? The reason I ask is that I wonder if he couldn't be of service for us now, at least until one or more of the rookie CB's we drafted are ready.
Vasher is only 30 years old. He has scads of quality NFL experience and 20 interceptions. He was having injury trouble in '08 and '09, however the Lions picked him up in early 2010 and he was a major component of the late season 4 game winning streak that year. I remember him making a number of veteran plays that helped us win those 4 games. He was a physical tackler. I don't recall him getting toasted on any play. The Lions then re-signed him for 2011. He apparently had a great camp last year but was cut on September 3rd, 2011.
Now Eric Wright and Aaron Berry are off of the roster from 2011. Greenwood is on PUP and has only DIV III experience coming in. Phonz is a gambler who doesn't seem to have the "mistake-free" game, yet, that Vasher had. I'm just wondering if he wouldn't be a piece of the puzzle for us still. He's only 30 and if he's healthy ?
As far as I know he's waiting for a phone call. The thinking on him is that he is past his prime. Maybe so. But he looked good for us in late 2010 and in camp last year. I'm just thinking that until these rookies show up and look ready to play Vasher could help us.
