So, I was shocked when the lions released Berry, especially since the depth and talent isn't so great. Yeah, he had problems and deserved to get kicked, but one question I had was, did Mayhew already figured the #2 spot before releasing Berry ? Hopefully Lions get rid of some no named WRs' collected up to make room for corners we might try to sign. Here's how I feel. if we go into the season with the current secondary, it would be a field day for other offences. There is no legit # 2 on the roster. The top runners for the spot include Smith, Lacey, and Bently, none of whom I would trust even against the Rams. Smith makes big plays but makes more mistakes that cost the team. There is no way in the BLUE HELL should Schwartz give him the job. Then we have Lacey, who had a decent season last year for the worst team, he is also undersized and he doesn't even want to play outside, he wants the nickle job. Finally we have Bently, who is also undersized to play outside. On top of that he is a rookie, so that doesn't help. None of these guys should be competing for that spot. If Greenwood hadn't been injured, I bet he would have been a good candidate for the spot. Great size, speed, and measureables. I feel he could have gotten the hang of transitioning into the NFL rather quickly. NO ! Scratch that, even Greenwood would've been lost. So that's leaves us with Green, I don't think he'd even make the practice squad. Looking at FA, Mayhew should try to sign Bryant McFadden and Leiggh Bodden, either of those guys would serve and do a decent job being # 2 CB for atleast this season. What do you think Lions should do ?
