The Detroit Lions have announced that another player has been placed on the PUP list. Unfortunately, it's running back Jahvid Best. It was expected that Best would be cleared for contact by now, allowing him to practice and get ready for the 2012 season. Based on him being on the PUP list, it seems as though he hasn't been cleared. What that means for his long-term status as a running back for the Lions I don't know, but it's certainly not a good sign.
The Lions have also placed offensive tackle Jonathan Scott, who was just signed earlier this week, on the non-football injury list. As pointed out by Tim Twentyman, Scott would have had to pass a physical to sign with the Lions, so it's possible he was placed on the NFI list because he did not pass the Lions' conditioning test.
With these moves, the Lions now have three players on the PUP list and two on the NFI list. The PUP list includes Best, Chris Greenwood and Ronnell Lewis, and the NFI list is made up by Scott and Ryan Broyles.
