The 2012 NFL offseason is almost over. While it may not end in some people's mind until regular-season games begin, football is almost back. Months and months of talking about the NFL Draft and free agency led into offseason workouts, and now the league is on a brief vacation before training camp begins and players hit the football field in preparation for the 2012 season.
For the Detroit Lions, the first practice of training camp is expected to take place three weeks from today. Rookies and injured players will report on July 23, and the rest of the team will have to return to Allen Park by July 26. The first practice should be on Friday, July 27, signaling the end of the offseason.
Once the Lions begin training camp, the focus will shift to their first preseason game on Aug. 10, two weeks after their first practice. The Lions will host the Cleveland Browns in what will be fans' first look at the 2012 edition of the team in a game.
In the next couple weeks, the Lions should release a schedule of which training camp practices will be open to the public, so keep an eye out for that this month.
