Lions Roster Cuts: Stephfon Green Released

Stay connected for news and updates

The Detroit Lions are facing a lot of uncertainty at the running back position going into the regular season. Between Jahvid Best not being cleared from a concussion and Mikel Leshoure being suspended the first two weeks, depth isn't exactly all that great right now. As a result, it looked like running back Stephfon Green, an undrafted free agent out of Penn State, might have a chance to stick around, at least for the first couple weeks of the season.

As it turns out, Green isn't in the Lions' plans going forward at running back. According to agent Howard Shatsky, Green was released on Monday morning.

Green had one of the Lions' best plays of the first three weeks of the preseason when he blew by the Baltimore Ravens defense for a 76-yard touchdown in Week 2. He showed off his speed in a big way, but evidently his speed just wasn't enough for the Lions to keep him around.
