On the same day the Detroit Lions placed running back Jahvid Best on the reserve PUP list, they acquired cornerback Kevin Barnes. If Best is able to return to the field at some point after the first six weeks of the season, I'm sure he'll be glad that Barnes is now on his team rather than an opposing one. I say that because back when they were in college, Barnes delivered what Best called "the hardest hit I've ever taken in my life." Here's video of the play:
Barnes spoke with the Detroit media on Tuesday and made it clear that he wants to be known for more than his hit on Best. He explained to the Detroit Free Press that he heard about the hit quite a bit when he played for the Washington Redskins, but it got old after a while.
"But after a while, it gets a little tiring. I want to be known for something else, so I have a lot to prove there in Detroit."
Barnes will certainly get a chance to prove himself considering the Lions aren't exactly overflowing with talent at cornerback. He should make the 53-man roster and be in the rotation in the secondary to start the season.
