Detroit Lions wide receiver Maurice Stovall (80) looks for running room after making a catch.
The Detroit Lions have parted ways with seven more players, bringing them ever closer to the 53-man limit. Via Tim Twentyman, here's the list of the latest players who are set to be released:
- WR Lance Long
- WR Maurice Stovall
- OG Rodney Austin
- DE Everette Brown
- DT Andre Fluellen
- CB Justin Miller
- S Reshard Langford
This is by far the most notable wave of cuts the Lions have made so far. All seven of these guys were right in the mix to make the team, as evidenced by them only now being informed of their release. It probably wasn't easy for the Lions to decide to release these players, but there just aren't enough spots for everyone.
With two receivers being let go, it's a good sign for Kassim Osgood and Patrick Edwards. The same goes for Jonte Green at cornerback and Ricardo Silva at safety. Two more players need to be let go to get down to the 53-man limit, and even that doesn't mean players will be safe, but it says a lot that guys like Osgood, Edwards, Green and Silva are still sticking around for now.
