Back in June, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham had a lot of praise for rookie linebackers Tahir Whitehead and Travis Lewis. The two players were picked in April's draft, and they quickly made a very positive impression on Lions coaches during the rookie minicamp and OTAs.
The two linebackers have continued to impress during training camp. Whitehead has especially received a lot of praise from both teammates and coaches, and Lewis is now starting to get a lot of praise as well.
Schwartz on rookie LB Travis Lewis: "I don’t want to jinx him but he has really been outstanding."

Gunther Cunningham saying Tahir Whitehead and Travis Lewis are two of the most "ready" rookies he's ever coached.

The Lions' depth at linebacker is quite outstanding. The Lions have the same three starters from last season back in DeAndre Levy, Stephen Tulloch and Justin Durant, and backups Ashlee Palmer and Doug Hogue are back as well. Add in the two rookies and the Lions have seven promising linebackers who figure to make the 53-man roster this year.
