The Detroit Lions returned to Allen Park to continue training camp on Monday with a full-padded morning practice. The team has Tuesday off and will return to the practice field on Wednesday as preparations for Friday's preseason game continue. Here's a look at notes from Monday's practice:
Injuries
-
Chris Houston returned to practice on Monday after missing Sunday's session, but he didn't take part in team drills.
- The following players once again missed practice on Monday: Mikel Leshoure, Ryan Broyles, Nate Hughes, Jonathan Scott, Louis Delmas and Don Carey.
- Jahvid Best and Chris Greenwood remain on the PUP list and also didn't practice on Monday.
- Kyle Vanden Bosch left practice early and had a wrap on his right knee, according to Dave Birkett.
- In case you missed it on Monday, Stephfon Green left practice with a knee injury of his own.
Offense
- According to Tom Leyden, Maurice Stovall continued to "play well" and "make good catches" on Monday. Anwar Richardson reported that Stovall scored a touchdown over Jacob Lacey during the Lions' goal line drill.
-
Titus Young also beat Lacey on a long touchdown pass, according to Richardson. In general, Young had a solid day, it appears.
— Tom Leyden (@TomLeyden) August 6, 2012#Lions Titus Young looking sharp with a couple of nice catches - one diving back to the line of scrimmage, one in traffic down sideline. - Riley Reiff got a lot of praise during Monday's practice.
This just in: I like T Riley Reiff's physicality. Couple of huge pancakes in drills. Not ready to start yet, but...
— Lions RapidReports (@CBSSportsNFLDET) August 6, 2012T Riley Reiff made one of his better blocks of the season in a full contact line drill. Absolutely wiped out Ronnell Lewis
— Lions RapidReports (@CBSSportsNFLDET) August 6, 2012Reiff looking real strong in this drill. Just made big pop on trap block
— Chris McCosky (@cmccosky) August 6, 2012
— Anwar Richardson (@AnwarRichardson) August 6, 2012#Lions T Riley Reiff blocking with some aggression today - Even though Reiff is looking good, it doesn't appear that he's about to jump into the starting lineup at right tackle just yet.
Reports of Gosder Cherilus' demise were greatly exaggerated. He's been a beast

Defense
- Jumping offside was a problem for the defensive line on Monday, and Jim Schwartz was none too happy about this.
After four offsides penalties and a false start in team drills, Jim Schwartz is...not happy. Colorfully voicing displeasure
— Lions RapidReports (@CBSSportsNFLDET) August 6, 2012 - Aside from the offside problem, it does sound like the D-line had a pretty good day.
— Anwar Richardson (@AnwarRichardson) August 6, 2012#Lions d line all over Stafford in team drills.Perhaps I spoke too soon. DL puts together string of good plays in team period.
— Lions RapidReports (@CBSSportsNFLDET) August 6, 2012 - Cliff Avril hit the practice field for the first time during training camp on Monday.
- Willie Young had a pick six off of Matthew Stafford.
- With Kyle Vanden Bosch leaving practice early, Lawrence Jackson got reps on the first-team defense.
- Bill Bentley once again practiced as one of the first-team cornerbacks.
Special Teams
- In general, it sounded like the Lions had a pretty sloppy practice, and fumble issues on special teams contributed to the sloppiness.
— Anwar Richardson (@AnwarRichardson) August 6, 2012#Lions RB Stefan Logan drops the ball on kickoff return. Recovered but still yelled atReturn men have butterfingers in special teams drills. Both Titus Young and Patrick Edwards have fumbled punts
— Lions RapidReports (@CBSSportsNFLDET) August 6, 2012 - The Lions had Stefan Logan, Keiland Williams and Justin Miller returning kicks, according to Anwar Richardson. Logan, Titus Young and Patrick Edwards returned punts on Monday.
