The Detroit Lions have started establishing their eight-man practice. Right now we know about two moves. The Lions have signed cornerback Ross Weaver and are about to sign offensive guard Rodney Austin, as reported by Weaver's agency and Dave Birkett, respectively.
Rodney Austin is on his way in now to sign w/Lions practice squad, as expected, though he did draw interest from another team after release— Dave Birkett (@davebirkett) September 1, 2012
Weaver joined the Lions practice squad toward the end of the 2011 regular season and was signed to a futures deal after the regular season. He was briefly let go during the summer before being brought back, and now he will be sticking around on the practice squad after being cut on Friday.
Austin signed this offseason as an undrafted free agent and performed very well during training camp. Many thought he might even make the team, but he was released on Friday and is now set to join the practice squad.
