I dont have has much of an issue with Scott Linehan....and I also think its way too early to jump on the back of Scott Linehan so far this season, and by the way lets keep in mind, Linehan cant do much about the huge plays the defense has given up so far this year, the horendus secondary, and the underachieving play of the D-Line...........He's a lot better than what we've had in the past, and in all fairness to him, Stafford hasnt been himself this year.....funny you know when I heard the term "Madden Curse" I assumed Calvin Johnson would be affected lol. Didnt think about this scenerio . But Seriously, i'll give Linehan a couple more games to see if the kinks can get worked out of this offense, and honestly I am starting to have an issue with Gunther Cunningham and Jim Schwartz....
As far as Cunningham is concerned in particular, I haven't liked him, never have, and never will.........As far as last season, the D was a problem for me, .....The defense was 23rd in the NFL last year, and the Run Defense was a problem as they were giving up 130 yrds/game...and when your defensive line has Ndamnukong Suh, Cliff Avril and Kyle Vanden Bosch up front that are supposed to be wrecking havoc, and making the job of the DB's easier, thats unacceptable...... 22nd in defense pts and the 5th most penalized defense in football along with giving up 2000 yards on the ground, and tied for 2nd in the league with 5.0 yds /rush, and 6th in the NFL for rushes more than 40 yards and tied for 4th in the league with 16 rushes for more than 20+yds????
This season it seems like more of the same on defense after playing SF, and Tennesee......and if its not stopping the run, its stopping big plays on offense.......You simply can't give up 5 yards a rush like you did against the 49ers, and 20 yard first down passes regularly against both the 49ers and the Titans making Alex Smith look like Joe Flacco, and making Jake Locker look like Tom Brady and expect win.
But I will say, in all fairness to the defense, you cant turn the ball over and take bad penalties and expect to win either. Minus -2 TO differential so far this year,.... and that brings me to Jim Schwartz,......This team still has discipline and fundamental issues and still takes bad, careless penalties when it matters the most, ....You think by now the message would have been sent to players? This is very frustrating and disappointing so far that these are still issues.
This team also still has issues on "D" with the personel.....They probably should have drafted corners and safetys in the first 2 rounds last year instead of a tackle who's not helping them right now, and a reciever with an injury history. They also could use an upgrade at the DT spot currently held by Corey Williams, as he's 32, and not the dominant, or big anchor type of lineman who can be "immovable" that you'd want next to a guy like Suh. Hopefully LeShore solves the running back problem, but it's only 1 game,....please lets not call him Barry Sanders yet. And for the love of god, i'll say it again,....they need an entire secondary.....they couldnt cover a reciver with a blanket, and probably couldnt cover Jason Hanson if ever decided to play him as a "secret weapon" 42 yr old kicker/reciver hybrid that we've been hiding for 20 years because we've been waiting for the right time to use it!!!! By the way....Danny Crossman was supposed to be this big special teams coaching, upgrade...I havent seen it yet
