The Detroit Lions have named their captains for the 2012 season. The captains were determined by a player vote, and surprisingly a total of six captains were named for this season.

The breakdown of the Lions' 2012 captains is as follows:
Offense: QB Matthew Stafford, WR Calvin Johnson
Defense: DE Kyle Vanden Bosch, LB Stephen Tulloch
Special teams: K Jason Hanson, S John Wendling
In the past, the Lions usually had only four permanent captains, plus a weekly captain that changed for each game. Last year, for example, the Lions had Stafford, Dominic Raiola, Vanden Bosch and Hanson as their permanent captains. This year, Stafford, Vanden Bosch and Hanson are back as captains, and Johnson, Tulloch and Wendling are the three new captains.
