Picking the Spread

I am in a Handicap league this year. First year doing it. I don't have any set formula. Looking for advice and expertise.

This is how the league is set up. Pick 5 winners vs the Spread. They can be the favorites or underdogs. Just have to beat the spread. Each winner is ONE point. Each loser is NO point. A push equals a HALF point. Possible 5 points per week. 17 weeks total. 85 possible points total for the year. This is a small league less than 30 players.

I guess reading on the IntraWebs that the vegas winner had 59 points last year. Averaging 3.5 points a week.

Like I said I have no real set formula. A few things I will keep in mind. QB vs QB. Homefield Advantage. Turnovers. Divisional game. Conditions and time. Previous week and following week. Injuries.

I would think 45 points could be a winner in this small league. That means averaging roughly 2.65 out 5 right picks a week. Also I would like to include the Lions as a pick per week :).

Thanks
