2012 POD Awards: The nominations

USA TODAY Sports

Before we get the 2012 POD Awards going, we need to decide on the nominations.

The categories are now set for the 2012 POD Awards. Based in part on your feedback, I decided against adding any categories to the initial list. I actually removed the category for Most Outstanding Offseason Addition, as I decided to focus strictly on things from during the season.

Now it's time to decide which players will be a part of the polls for each category that will be voted on in the coming weeks. We need to go through and come up with nominations for the various awards. There isn't a set number for each category, nor is there a maximum amount of nominees. We do obviously need at least two nominees for each category, though. Here's the list:

  • Most Valuable Player
  • Offensive Player of the Year
  • Defensive Player of the Year
  • Special Teams Player of the Year
  • Breakout Player of the Year
  • Rookie of the Year
  • Most Valuable Backup
  • Game of the Year
  • Moment of the Year

I already have a general idea of the nominees for each category, but I want to get your feedback on who or what should be included to make sure I don't miss anybody or anything. For some of these awards the winner is probably pretty obvious already, but I want to make sure we have a good list of nominees for each category anyway. So be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments.

(Note: I changed this to the 2012 POD Awards in order to reflect what season we are voting on. While it is now obviously 2013, it wouldn't necessarily make sense to use that for the 2012 season.)
