1st round- Milliner CB Alabama
2nd round - Eric Reid safety LSU / Barrett Jones OL Alabama
3rd round - Kenjon Barner RB Oregon
5th round - Tyrann Mathieu CB LSU
6th/7th round - best available
This mock is based what i believe are biggest needs are. I see alot of early mocks as us taking a DE 5th overall, but do believe that we can grab a late round pick and mold them into a cliff avril type player.
My first round pick of Milliner is based on a solid need for a corner, while hes not a Patrick Peterson IMO he is a instant upgrade to Jonte Green and Bill Bentley. I would be satisfied with this pick from #5 -#10 if we would find a trade partner to trade back, but wouldn't go back that much farther if i wanted Milliner.
2nd Round would be a toss up to which every player is available. Jones could take over for Dom since he has played pretty much every position on the O-line. Eric Reid is one of the highest rated Safety's with good ball/ tackling skills.
3rd round pick of Kenjon Barner is purely a replacement for Best who's career is probably over. He may be a touch slower then previous teammate lamicheal James but is a more balanced overall runner with more strength. Check him out on the Senior Bowl practices on NFL Network nothing but good things i see so he may not be here in the 3rd round.
So for my 5th round pick i went with Tyrann Mathieu, Sure there is the drug problem and i was a HUGE fan of use taking Jenoris Jenkins last year, Mayhew said he wants play makers on defense, and the Honey badger will have to explain himself for his dismissal from LSU to all the NFL teams. Granted he got burned as a cb at times, hes still a play maker and wouldn't be such a risk in the 5th round.
Its not perfect and understand there's holes in the draft and i have grown to realize just when we think the Lions will do one thing they do the other. i wouldn't complain about this draft because i feel that it fills 5 holes, with the only 'need" left at DE which you can coach up whats on the roster now ie.... Lo jack, Willie Young , Ronnel Lewis thanks for reading!
