Reggie Bush not expected to return to Miami Dolphins

Joel Auerbach

Running back Reggie Bush is set to become a free agent this offseason, and he reportedly isn't likely to return to the Miami Dolphins.

It's no secret that the Detroit Lions will be in the market for a speedy running back this offseason. With running back Jahvid Best not expected to play football again, there is a void in the offense. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew is well aware that he needs to fill that void, and one player who could get some consideration is Reggie Bush.

Bush is set to become a free agent this offseason, and it's not looking like he will be re-signed by the Miami Dolphins. From CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora:

Reggie Bush's ability to make explosive plays and contribute on special teams will lead to a nice market forming for him, I'm sure, and it's highly unlikely he stays with Miami, sources said.

Bush really saw his career take off in Miami the past two seasons. He rushed for 1,086 yards in 2011 and 986 in 2012. His yards per carry averages were 5.0 and 4.3 in his two years in Miami, and he also had 296 yards receiving in 2011 and 292 in 2012. He seems to fit the mold of the type of running back the Lions are looking to add to their offense to go along with Mikel Leshoure and Joique Bell.

NFL.com's Chris Wesseling has already mentioned the Lions as a team to "keep an eye out for" when it comes to Bush. I'd agree that the Lions will probably take a look at him, but I question if they will be able to afford him if there is indeed a "nice market" for Bush. Teams aren't exactly going to go wild with their spending on a running back like Bush, but the Lions aren't exactly in a position to outbid anybody.

What do you think about the idea of the Lions pursuing Bush?
