NFC North standings: Lions, Bears remain atop division

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears are still at the top of the NFC North.

The NFC North is turning out to be a pretty strong division. It's no NFC West, where all four teams are .500 or better, but the NFC North does have three teams currently over .500. The Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears still lead the way, and technically the Lions are in first place thanks to their win over the Bears earlier in the season. Take a look:

  1. Detroit Lions (4-2)
  2. Chicago Bears (4-2)
  3. Green Bay Packers (3-2)
  4. Minnesota Vikings (1-4)

On Sunday on the road, the Lions beat the Cleveland Browns and the Packers beat the Baltimore Ravens. Earlier in the week, the Bears took care of business at home against the New York Giants. The Vikings were the division's only team to lose, as they fell by a score of 35-10 at home against the Carolina Panthers.

In the NFC in general, the Lions are currently third. Only the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks, which are both 5-1, are ahead of them. Interestingly, if the season ended today, the Lions would play host to the Bears in the first round of the playoffs. I could go for that, but it obviously doesn't mean much considering it's still only Week 6.

In any case, the Lions have put themselves in a really good position with their 4-2 start to the season. If they can pick up wins in the two upcoming home games before their bye week, we'll really be able to start talking playoffs.
