NFC North standings: Despite loss, Lions remain in first place

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions held on to their spot atop the NFC North despite a loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Not much went right for the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Calvin Johnson was out because of a knee injury, and the Lions proceeded to lose yet another game at Lambeau Field. The loss dropped them to 3-2 on the season, but it did not drop them out of first place. Thanks to the Chicago Bears losing at home by a score of 26-18 to the New Orleans Saints, the Lions held on to their spot atop the NFC North standings going into Week 6:

  1. Detroit Lions (3-2)
  2. Chicago Bears (3-2)
  3. Green Bay Packers (2-2)
  4. Minnesota Vikings (1-3)

Next Sunday, the Lions go on the road to take on the Cleveland Browns, which are tied for first place in the AFC North with the Baltimore Ravens at 3-2. Speaking of the Ravens, they will play host to the Packers next Sunday. Also on the NFC North schedule in Week 6 are the following two games: Bears at home against the 0-5 New York Giants and Vikings at home against the 1-3 Carolina Panthers.

Given how bad the Giants have been this season, it seems unlikely that the Bears will lose that game, especially considering it's a quick turnaround (it's the Thursday night game this week). So, if the Lions want to remain in first place after Week 6, they will probably need a win at the Browns.
