Lions place Montell Owens on IR, re-sign Dorin Dickerson

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions have brought back Dorin Dickerson after putting Montell Owens on injured reserve.

Running back Montell Owens is back on injured reserve, and this time it's the season-ending version. The Detroit Lions placed him on IR again on Tuesday afternoon, bringing his season to an end in the process.

Owens was previously placed on injured reserve (with the designation to return) before the start of the season after suffering a knee injury. He ended up hurting the same knee again early on in his first game back (against the Chicago Bears earlier this month), and evidently it wasn't a short-term injury with him out for the season.

To fill his spot on the roster, the Lions re-signed tight end Dorin Dickerson, who spent all of five days with the Lions back in October. Here's more on Dickerson:

Dickerson is a former seventh-round pick out of Pittsburgh. He played for the Houston Texans in seven games in his rookie year. The next season, in 2011, he bounced around, spending time on the practice squads of the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots. In 2012, he played in 11 games for the Buffalo Bills and recorded 9 catches for 117 yards.

The return of Dickerson means the Lions now have three tight ends again. They had been rolling with only two (Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria) since releasing Tony Scheffler last month.
